It is hard to know whether to be outraged or grateful that President Obama has decided to skip the 150th anniversary of Lincolns famous speech at Gettysburg this week. Hes sending his secretary of the Interior (who?), when even Attorney General Eric Holder would be more appropriate. It is not Obamas first act of diffidence or disdain for American icons; think of his casual and intermittent relationship with the American flag pin on his lapel, for example, along with some of his overseas pronouncements tacitly attesting to his ambition to embody some kind of post-American ethos to go along with his post-modern philosophical outlook. This slight ranks on par with Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton skipping the 40th and 50th anniversaries of the D-Day landings at Normandy. But it certainly is a curious decision for a man who has otherwise gone to such lengths to associate himself with the Great Emancipator, and youd think hed love the chance to change the subject right now. Obama announced his presidential campaign on the steps of the state capital in Springfield, Illinois, in 2007, invoking the memory and image of Lincoln, and Obama chose to be sworn intwiceon Lincolns Bible, after re-creating Lincolns train journey to the capitol in 2009. In 2005, before Obamas presidential ambitions took shape, he spoke at the opening of the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, where he attempted to associate himself with Lincoln, especially what he described as Lincolns repeated acts of self-creationa phrase that doesnt really apply to Lincoln but surely applies to Obama. James Madison Would Know Who Today's Extremists Are, And They're Not The Tea Party Can it be that Obama has sensed a limit to his own megalomania?

Barack Obama wouldn't know Gettysburg from apple pie and for that matter, neither would the 47% of his supporters.
Simple answer...No way Jose'
Websites are complicated.
Exactly. Obama is all about Obama, all the time.
I think I’m about to have an attack of la nausée.
He just wants to be left alone to eat his waffle. :-)
I wouldn’t want him there desecrating that heroic site. Obama is a moral coward.

Well what the heck would you do if you were a MOOOOSlim.
Obama does have one thing in common with Lincoln: they were both skinny lawyers.
Of course, Lincoln actually practiced law.
I think Obama just learned that Lincoln was a Republican. He is from Chicago, you know.
“A man’s got to know his limitations.”
Ah, but they also say that Lincoln was from Illinois. He was from Kentucky - Knob Creek.
Lincoln not only practiced law he was pretty darn good at it. Of course he never had the disadvantage of having attended law school.
