APOPKA, Fla. (AP) — George Zimmerman was charged with assault Monday after his girlfriend called deputies to the home where they were living and claimed he pointed a shotgun at her during an argument, authorities said.

The girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, called 911 in the early afternoon to say that Zimmerman had smashed a glass table, threatened her with the shotgun and ultimately pushed her out of the house, according to an arrest report. After pushing her out, Zimmerman barricaded the door with furniture and refused to leave, saying that he would talk to police by phone, authorities said.

She wasn’t in the right trashing his stuff and throwing it outside. You can’t smash someone’s belonging just because you can. If nothing else, he’s guilty of trespassing and she’s guilty of property damage.

“Deputies used a key provided by Scheibe to unlock the door and they were able to push through the barricade of items, Lemma said.”

Ah. You appear to be trolling.

It doesn’t say she “trashed” anything or damaged it. It just says she moved it outside.

The article mentions that Zimmerman shot Martin...but does NOT mention that at the time Martin was SMASHING HIS HEAD INTO A SIDEWALK! That omission is a filthy cowardly lie.

A cop had to see something... like maybe the broken table?

Probably. I put my fist through a wall once. Well, not through it,but it broke the wallboard. I didn’t mean to and it was in private. The wall was not very strong.

You can drop a metal object on a glass table and, if the contact point is small enough, shatter it. A broken glass table is not proof someone was being abusive. And if all they have is her word and a broken table, they have nothing.

This is not about Zimmerman for me. This is about all americans. I imagine myself in his position (ignoring the history and focusing just on this event). The only claim being made, and it is completely unverifiable, is that he pointed a gun at her. And I know how many false claims are made by soon to be ex wives and girlfriends to get money, etc. out of a man. It happened to a friend of mine. She admitted it. She also admitted her attorney put her up to it. I think my ex tried it with me when she tried really hard to get physical but I refused to go there.

Bottom line for me: If there is no evidence other than a broken table, and Zimmerman is denying that he pointed a gun at her, and there are no other witnesses, there is no there, there.

What evidence could there possibly be that he pointed a gun at her? By your logic, any time someone points a gun at someone else, in private and with no witnesses, "there is no there, there."

So then you are saying that anytime an accusation is made of pointing a gun at somebody that we should believe the accuser???

That is exactly what I am saying. It is a biblical principle. One witness is not enough, unless it is a video recording.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm just saying that automatically saying "there's no there, there" is premature.

So, any domestic incident, short of physical violence that leaves a mark, cannot be criminal?

Other considerations can come into play, even in a "he said, she said" scenario - things like the relative credibility of the accuser/accused's stories, history of similar conduct, etc. Not saying that stuff would resolve this case (we don't know enough to say), just that your approach would effectively de-criminalize large amounts of criminal behavior.
