New York States new definition of assault weapons and magazine restrictions may drive away manufacturers who are being wooed by other states, trade groups say
ALBANY Gov. Cuomos tough new gun law has put a target on the states gun makers.
Cities, counties and states from across the country have been making lucrative pitches to New Yorks firearms companies, urging them to relocate. Their argument: They have a gun-friendly atmosphere, and New York does not.
They receive solicitations . . . on almost a daily basis, said Lawrence Kean, senior vice president and general counsel of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a trade group.
CEOs have told me they could basically move their factories for free.
Cuomo pushed his new gun law through the Legislature a month after the deadly shooting rampage in Newtown, Conn. The law broadened the definition of what is considered a banned assault weapon, and it reduced the size of permissible gun magazines to seven rounds, from 10.
Since then, the states remaining firearms companies, including major employers like Remington Arms in upstate Ilion and Kimber Manufacturing in Yonkers, have been wooed by officials from places including South Carolina and Texas.
Anthony Testa, general manager of Just Right Carbines in upstate Canandaigua, southeast of Rochester, said his company received at least a dozen offers from other states.
Just Right, which employs about a dozen workers and produces an assault rifle now banned under the states new law, has decided to stay put...

Hopefully, Remington, Ithaca, Kimber, and so on will relocate. It’s be nice if those companies told NYC and NY State agencies to pound sand and refuse to sell to them. Doubt it would happen though.
Soooo, all those makers who chose to stay put... How’s that going to be working out again?
I guess Cuomo has never seen a zombie flick, zombies are everywhere especially in NY urban area’s.
You can be assured Cuomo’s Mafia buddies carry well more than 10 rounds.
The rest of the country should boycott NY firearms businesses. Heck they should boycott any NY business.
Remmington would be tough to boycott.
Relocation is a great way to answer to Cuomo. Refusing to sell those manufacturer’s products to law enforcement and other state government agencies is even better.
“Remmington would be tough to boycott.”
Very true, if one includes the Freedom Group conglomerate. I really like AAC products but my conscience struggles with supporting them since they sold out to Freedom Group (Remington).
Didn’t one company do something similar in CA when they passed some stupid “assault weapons” ban in the 80’s?
IIRC Remington was blustering like they were going to move and then took their 30 pieces of silver in the form of a large contract on condition that they stay.
Us`n hillbillies up here in them Adirondackers is don` gonna relocate Mr. Cuomo out of NY State to where`n he belongs it.
Walther USA is now out of Ft Smith, Arkansas and Remington has a large ammo plant in Lonoke.
Then there are the independent gun makers (WILSON) over in Berryville, Arkansas.
For the recoil shy there is DAISY over in Rogers.
They never heard of flashlights!

RENSSELAER COUNTY, N.Y. -- "If you feel like your life or the life of others is in danger, you are allowed to use deadly force in response," said New York State Police Captain Scott Coburn.
"You can have the belief that the imminent use of deadly physical force is going to be used against you, even without being present," Coburn said.
