There was a second buy who came forward and joined the lawsuit. Exact same experience.
Yes, Two. Click on New Mexico topics for the posted stories here on FR.
Yep and he may have saved an innocent live as that nut could have run someone down running from police. kudos to the cop!!
Go ALL the way around but never through New Mexico is my thinking...
guy. not buy. sorry.
One wonders if she has multiple DUIs, did she have a valid license? If so, the system that allowed a drunk a license to drive kids around is severely screwed up.
I agree, there is more to this. But it's difficult to see how the shooting cop is going to avoid the meat grinder. He really shouldn't have done that. I don't see the cops doing anything improper until the one does the shooting.
I also wonder what if....they simply followed her after she took off. Like they ended up doing anyway.
It will be a wonder if this whole fustercluck doesn't devolve into another race thing.
“most mothers have taken something like that from their own 14 yr old sons”
Really now? wow
You make it sound like a goat track. The speed limit was 55. Thats a pretty good road.
My daughter is a Deputy Medical Investigator. That stretch of road, drunks kill themselves monthly. Taos News link I live in Taos and have driven the road.
Teenagers are emotional. I had four. Sometimes they threw something at each other, which is more than this kid did.
All ready on the right all ready on the left.. with a magazine of 10 rounds.. Lock and Load.
No chocolates for this Mom next Valentine’s Day.
Looks like a combo overzealous policing and fortunately lousy shooting, better to just let her go and contact her later.
Instead,, bam bam bam, whack whack whackk,, for a 71 in a 55 mph infraction.
I understood your sarcasm.
I was in agreement with you...
??????????
If you have a legitimate fear for your safety you could justify it — that is if you are still alive.
Sometime in the 80’s a young girl, 19 or 20 was pulled over by a CHP officer at night on I-15 just outside of Poway / Penasquitos.
Afterword there was a slate cases of drivers who wouldn’t pull over immediately opting to pull over in Gas Stations or well lit Businesses or similarly safe areas. Many faced charges of some sort that were eventually dropped as the notoriety of the case was at it’s peak.

No death penalty for “physical attack”.
Just because the mother is an idiot and put her children in danger doesn’t excuse a cop firing at the children. The cop’s life wasn’t in danger.
Well, that explains some (not all) of her actions.
If I had seen my mother fighting a cop over a speeding ticket I would have wondered what the hell was wrong with her and would have tried to calm her down. The 14 year old believed that this WASNT going to be a standard moving violation, he suspected that this was more serious with far worse consequences. It isn't uncommon for drug abusers/dealers and criminals of various sorts to include children in their activities especially if they are part of the gangsta culture. This kid knew something.
At 14 I would have been fully capable of killing an adult, especially a distracted one. The cop had no way of knowing if that kid was carrying anything especially after having sent the kid back into the vehicle where he could have acquired a weapon. If, as a 14 year old, I had been motivated to go after a cop I would have understood that I was doing it under threat of potentially being shot and would have made sure I was armed. When the kid got out the second time the cop should have sticked or tased that kid.
By this point in time the cop should have fully expected that this was not a standard traffic stop. Moms in minivans full of kids do not evade a speeding ticket by going on high speed chases in oncoming traffic. He should have suspected at the very least that she had serious mental or medical problems that required her to be stopped then and there. We cant see what the mother is doing at the second stop but, it sounds like there is a struggle when the cop tried to get her out. Having fled, he should have suspected that she may be armed or have something concealed within immediate reach. When he could not pull her out, he should have tased or sprayed her.
Had he taken any of these justified steps then others in the community would not have had their lives unduly threatened when she fled again. No backup would have even been required except to search the mom when hauling her off.
As to the cop who shot at the vehicle, he is clearly aiming at the driver side rear tire. Not justifiable knowing that the car is full of kids. The angle he fires from endangers innocent vehicles potentially approaching from the oncoming lane. There is no evidence that the pipe sticking out of the back of the vehicle is a full auto dog firing cannon. This 3rd cop needs to have action taken against him.
In the video we can see the boy, and his younger sisters who also jump out, get back in the vehicle. At the end we see cop 3(?) hauling of the boy in cuffs. Another poster has commented that the kid looks small and he is compared to cop1 and mom. If we look for objects to get an idea of scale, like the minivan, we see that cop1 is a man of some size and mom is rather tall but boy is comparable in size to cop3 and should be considered as potentially dangerous to adults.

The road has yellow caution signs identifying switchbacks At this time of year there is snow on the ground. Most flatlanders do not understand high mountain driving.
on that road with caution signs for 30mph.
Unless of course she was intoxicated and gets in a wreck on the way home.
I got one of those in Arizona.
The fine was so cheap that I ordered two of them because I was coming back the same way.
