The Tennessee Valley Authority, a federal corporation which operates energy facilities and other land management operations across multiple states, has announced that they will be closing eight coal fired power plants. They will seek to reduce coal sourced energy to 20% of their total capacity and the plants in question will be closed in Alabama and Kentucky. (The latter plants faced some headwinds as Mitch McConnell fought to stop them from closing, but the TVA overruled him.)

Or maybe, coal can’t compete with ridiculous regulations from the Dicktators administration which were put in place to destroy the coal industry. Just part of the plan Stan, just part of the plan.
Not so. Coal is only having problems because it’s unfairly penalized by the EPA, which drives up the cost due to having to comply with overly-zealous regulation not only on the generation plants but on extraction as well. If it were allowed to compete properly, it’d be one of the cheapest energy sources; it’d be even more so if some of the largest deposits weren’t arbitrarily locked away in dubious “national monuments”. There’s enough market pressure out there that “clean coal” would become the norm, if it weren’t so outrageously expensive to implement the technology due to the EPA compliance costs.
Does anyone believe that the hated fracking isn't next on the list after the 2014 elections?

Our economy will not take another 3 years of obama and biden destroying important industries.

I’m sure all the networks will do indepth stories on the poor workers losing their jobs like they did for the government shutdown.
Bingo! And furthermore, the only "renewables" are solar, wind, & geothermal (did I miss any?). Nuclear is, well, hated by the left since long ago, way before Three Mile Island. Natural gas is plentiful and so is oil (through fracking), but they produce dreaded CO2, and (*cough*) earthquakes!. Dams produce lots of power but the PETA/Sierra Club/other-enviro-wackos want to dismantle them so the snail-darters, etc. can swim where they want.
I'm fine with solar/wind/geothermal but those are niche energy sources -- you can't power a steel factory with such low-yield sources, basic physics! Not to mention they are terribly expensive.
Electric cars are a disaster -- the electricity still comes from traditional sources, the lavish subsidies are costing us billions, and the battery technology isn't there yet.
Remember Obama said under his plan "electricity prices will necessarily skyrocket". Their answer to the energy crisis they're creating will be accelerating the implementation of Agenda 21, concentrating people along rail and bus lines and forcing them to live in high-rises.
Just like Obamacare -- put private insurers out of business with a crisis they created, and put everyone on single payer national health care.
You get it.
Some of this has been in the works due to the age and inefficiency of some coal fired power plants. But the EPA has been trying to destroy the coal industry for decades (Carol Browner, the marxist, her protege’ marxist Lisa Jackson, and now the “butch” McCathy).
Good news for the people who will need all the power they can get for the coming winter. Snow is scheduled to hit New York and Boston tomorrow after slamming parts of the MidWest.
How do you like your “liberals”? Frozen, I hope, except they have all the money (ever known a poor liberal), while the moderates and conservatives are mainly the working class.
The poor get help with the heating bills (the ones who really need it often don’t because of the welfare cheats).

The death of coal is not a death but a murder. The miner’s union that backed obama has committed suicide. Our wealth is under our feet and what will replace it? An entire resource put off limits to enrich the rich and further destroy the middle class. But the chinese have coal options on federal lands. Why is that?

Cutting down electricity production does 3 things...
1. Puts coal miners and a lot of others out of work
2. Increase costs for US industry and consumers alike
3. Sets us up for a big loss in population as the next ice age kicks in ....

I have been expecting a colder climate since I noticed that people all over the world were getting rather chunky for seemingly no reason at all. Going to need that extra fat to survive, methinks.

How are they going to charge those electric cars and golf carts without power from coal generating plants? Oh, the horror if it all.
Alright, maybe I overlooked the fact that they could use wind and solar power during the day to do that....but only for a small amount of “greenie-weenies” with their precious electric “energy saving” vehicles.
Everyone needs to have a good stock of candles for lighting the house at night and a lot of firewood to heat the home while the green energy production plants close for the day.

I can see the smoke-stacks of the Gallatin from my
house,three now after the Billion dollar upgrade.
Sierra Club wanted this one closed too.
