McCain to Cruz on shutdown: ‘You’re crazy’
msnbc.com ^ | November 14, 2013 | Aliyah Frumin

The divisions were on full display at the fifth annual Washington Ideas Forum on Thursday, especially between Sens. John McCain of Arizona and Ted Cruz of Texas, who spoke right after each other.

McCain said that while he “respected” the Tea Party Texan, he adamantly disagreed with Cruz spearheading a spending battle over defunding Obamacare, which resulted in a partial government shutdown last month. McCain said the reckless move forced a town in his district to rely on food flown in from food banks.

“I have to say, “Stop. You’re wrong, you’re crazy,” said McCain. “If I sound angry, it’s because I have met and talked to constituents of mine who are on minimum wage who had to resort to go to food banks… There was no chance of success and anybody that believe that there is, is very naïve about the Constitution of the United States.”

McCain to Cruz, “You’re crazy!”
Cruz to McCain, “You’re history!”

McShamnesty doesn’t give a damn about his real constituents. I’m one of them.

He’s done a bang up job training our other Senator, McFlake.

To paraphrase the late Joseph “Jody” Powell, being called “crazy” by John McPain is a great honor.

First I’ve heard of “this town”.

McCain wants to try again at a run for president. Personally, I hope he does. He has zero chance of getting the nomination again, but he will siphon off the liberal influence in the primaries so we have a shot at a real conservative candidate this time around.

Apparently my Senator was speaking about Tusayan, the town outside Grand Canyon National Park.

Now John, who was it that cherry-picked what Parks/Monuments were to be shut down? Hint, it WAS NOT Ted Cruz.

Barack Obama/his administration/Harry Reid shut down the Govt.

He was talking about Tucson. He said the furloughed workers in the town of Tucson had to have food sent in form food banks. Why, I don't know. Couldn't they drive to Walmart or the local food bank?

Here's more about what he said....

“…But it was a fool’s errand to start with. It was never going to succeed. And the damage, this was not an academic exercise. the damage done to the people of this country, particularly in my state where we’re dependent on the tourist industry and places like the Grand Canyon, there’s a town called Tucson outside the Grand Canyon, hundreds of people then we had to have food banks send up meals for them because they live on minimum wage. Look, we can’t do this to the American people.”

Again, I have no idea why only the folks in "a town called Tucson" are incapable of driving themselves, or somehow getting themselves, to a food bank or Walmart.

It’s sad that John has such little regard for the citizens of Arizona. Citizens and LEGAL residents.

He’s a real nut if he thinks Tucson is outside the Grand Canyon.

His ranch in Page Springs along Oak Creek is about 200 miles closer to the Grand Canyon than Tucson. (with Phoenix in between). He needs to visit his HOME STATE more often. Perhaps look at a map?

If a town needs food flown in from a food bank because of a Federal government shutdown, that town needs to do some thinking about their current situation. That’s patently absurd in a nation of free people.

If this is "actually" true (I doubt it), it's only because the only road to the town passed through a National Park, and Odumbo closed it.

Tusayan is not Tucson. Tucson is nowhere near the Grand Canyon, and is about half a million people strong. The transcriber got the two names mixed up, probably because few people have ever heard of Tusayan.

Thanks for giving me the information! I’m thinking he must have made a mistake because Tucson is nowhere near the Grand Canyon.

Yes there are lots of small, very small communities near the Grand Canyon that don’t have anything like a Wal-Mart within 100 miles but surely there is somewhere they could have gotten food. He might have meant Truxton or Tuba City -they’re the only 2 towns anywhere near the Grand Canyon on the AZ side that start with T.

He should have his facts right before he speaks. I imagine if people in Tucson heard him, they were probably laughing!

Thanks. I’ve been all over AZ for the past 10 years for work, but never have encountered Tusayan and looked on my Microsoft Street & Trips, but didn’t see it.

I haven’t been to the Grand Canyon, but I can see how an entire town that relies on tourists would have a tough time during the shutdown.

Thanks again.
