He was talking about Tucson. He said the furloughed workers in the town of Tucson had to have food sent in form food banks. Why, I don’t know. Couldn’t they drive to Walmart or the local food bank?
Here’s more about what he said....

“…But it was a fool’s errand to start with. It was never going to succeed. And the damage, this was not an academic exercise. the damage done to the people of this country, particularly in my state where we’re dependent on the tourist industry and places like the Grand Canyon, there’s a town called Tucson outside the Grand Canyon, hundreds of people then we had to have food banks send up meals for them because they live on minimum wage. Look, we can’t do this to the American people.”

Again, I have no idea why only the folks in “a town called Tucson” are incapable of driving themselves, or somehow getting themselves, to a food bank or Walmart.

Thanks for giving me the information! I’m thinking he must have made a mistake because Tucson is nowhere near the Grand Canyon.

Yes there are lots of small, very small communities near the Grand Canyon that don’t have anything like a Wal-Mart within 100 miles but surely there is somewhere they could have gotten food. He might have meant Truxton or Tuba City -they’re the only 2 towns anywhere near the Grand Canyon on the AZ side that start with T.

He should have his facts right before he speaks. I imagine if people in Tucson heard him, they were probably laughing!

See post 54...apparently Juan was talking about Tusayan, not Tucson.
