Obamacare Architect: Genetic "Lottery Winners" Have Been Paying An "Artificially Low Price"
Real Clear Politics ^ | Nov 13, 2013 | Staff

JONATHAN GRUBER, M.I.T.: Let’s start with understanding that we're not talking about the vast majority of Americans. This law is really leaving those with employer insurance, those with government insurance alone. We’re talking about a small minority of Americans that buy insurance on their own through the individual market.

CHUCK TODD: Still millions of people.

GRUBER: Exactly. It's 12 million people, about a third of which will end up paying more under this law. And that as you said in the introductions sort of the idea. We currently have a highly discriminatory system where if you’re sick, if you’ve been sick or [if] you’re going to get sick, you cannot get health insurance.

The only way to end that discriminatory system is to bring everyone into the system and pay one fair price. That means that the genetic winners, the lottery winners who've been paying an artificially low price because of this discrimination now will have to pay more in return. And that, by my estimate, is about four million people. In return, we'll have a fixed system where over 30 million people will now for the first time be able to access fairly price and guaranteed health insurance.

Jonathan Gruber was the wonk behind RomneyCare too. In my mind, Gruber by his comment:

That means that the genetic winners, the lottery winners who've been paying an artificially low price because of this discrimination now will have to pay more in return.

shows he is an outright Marxist. You can take his statement and say: Your success is because of genetics so the gov't has every right to take is and give it to the losers in the genetic lottery.

I love their rationale. It’s only 1/3 of the privately insured that will pay more.

In other words, 1/3 of the lucky who are privately insured can carry the load for all the takers of society. Stick it to a small group of people.

Look at the enrollment numbers: 1 paying Obamacare signup for every 4 free loading moocher medicaid sign up.

And the people who decide what is "fair" are.....?

Reminds me of the short fiction story where everyone was forced to be equal -— smart people had a buzzer to make them stupid, pretty ballerina wore weights around her ankle, etc.

Can’t remember the name.

“We’re talking about a small minority of Americans that buy insurance on their own through the individual market.”

Now, THAT is a howling lie!

Sounding more and more like "Harrison Bergeron" by Vonnegut.

It was about a dysfunctional future society where the "genetic winners" were forced to wear weights, have buzzers in their heads, etc., to make it fair for everyone.

Gruber’s first statement is a lie. I have a small business policy, i.e. not an individual policy. It was canceled because of the ACA. Larger employers either have already received such notices or will receive them. The ACA’s prohibition on the issuance of non-conforming policies is NOT limited to individual plans.

No its not a genetic lottery ...

IT’S THE LIFESTYLE OF CHOICE. Conservatives reduce risk by a specific lifestyle of low stress and other smart choices.

Obama wants to punish moral, conservative livelihoods by making them pay for the risky, immoral rest of the world.

This sure as hell isn’t what the American voters were hearing when the Affordable Care Act was being debated and during the 2012 elections.

It’s also a textbook example of the Leftist war on language. The definition of the word insurance is pooled risk, i.e. you don’t take someone who is already sick or already crashed their car.

See post #11, Muddog is right, that is the story “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut. Vonnegut was a pretty big liberal, but I think this goes to show how far today’s “liberals” have wandered into the wilderness.

Harrison Bergeron, by Kurt Vonnegut.

It is the year 2081. Because of Amendments to the Constitution, every American is fully equal, meaning that no one is smarter, better-looking, stronger, or faster than anyone else. The Handicapper General and a team of agents ensure that the laws of equality are enforced. The government forces citizens to wear "handicaps" (a mask if they are too handsome or beautiful, earphones with deafening radio signals to make intelligent people unable to concentrate and form thoughts, and heavy weights to slow down those who are too strong or fast).
