Republicans are walking into a trap and they dont even realize it.
They are about to consider, in the House of Representatives, legislation by Congressman Upton that would allow people to keep their insurance plans.
Theres a problem though. It is widely acknowledged that Congressman Uptons legislation is more messaging than substance. His legislation does not have anything in it that can force insurance companies, in the topsy-turvy world of Obamacare, to keep insurance plans going.
But there is a plan than does. Senator Mary Landrieu has written legislation in the United States Senate that the Democrats love. It mandates insurance companies have to keep people on their present insurance. The GOP is supposedly against mandates and against government forcing private businesses and individuals into contracts they dont want.
Heres what is going to happen.
The House, with the help of a good number of Democrats, will pass the Upton plan and send it to the Senate. Harry Reid will substitute the Landrieu plan and send it back to the House. The House will be forced to either vote for the Landrieu plan or be characterized as siding with insurance companies against people.
In one fell swoop, the Democrats will have the GOP on record saving Mary Landrieus re-election in Louisiana by casting her as the one who saved Americans health care plans, and also getting on record as really being in favor of fixing Obamacare with the use of mandates.
The GOP is walking right into the trap.
“The House, with the help of a good number of Democrats, will pass the Upton plan and send it to the Senate”
That would be a big mistake. House/GOP should not pass anything associated with ‘fixing’ this mess.
You’re right - it is a trap - either way - Republicans lose.
The only way out is for all pubs to vote ‘Present’

Boehner put these worthless men in their committee chairmanships. They are his tools. Boehner needs to be reomoved so Upton can be removed. We can never make any decent chess moves with these people. And it’s intentional.
This is entirely the Democrats. They own it 100%.
Don’t go near it. Don’t offer any help. Just stay out of their way and watch the burning dopes flail about.
Democrat Sen. Reid gutted H.R. 3590 and replaced it with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Stupid Party (GOP) is as Stupid Party does.
Boehner is a big big part of the problem. He’s a Rat mole.
Keep up the good work, Republicrats.
When the people, like me, realize that Upton and many others, are complicit in the scheme to save this huge travesty they will be helping to bury the nation as well as the Republican Party.
Okay, it might be ‘a trap’ of sorts - but said trap will only destroy Obamacare by triggering a Death Spiral and force Obama to bail out the InsCos that are in Obamacare.
I’m not so sure Reid will switch the bill though, is he really willing to undercut Obama?
The Dem plan is great no matter as it’s the first official sign of Obama possibly being tossed over the side the boat by a currently forming Clinton Coalition. More and more Dems sign on and who knows how far down the road it goes.
Also, I would also point out that the Rep bill apparently allows InsCos to offer the plans they used to offer... to anyone! That isn’t quit a empty bill that won’t do much; it would effectively repeal Obamacares coverage mandate
if they do this they will own it. dems will hang all its failures on repubs. upton is either an effing idiot or secret democrat plant.
One thing you can count on from the GOP. They know how to seize defeat
from the jaws of victory.
I have no doubt the more the demodummies try to “fix” odumbocare, it becomes that more confusing. Sooner or later the bastardized “plan” will have become soooooooo confusing, the Repubs will give up trying to resolve the unresolvable and roll over. Its time to repeal the whole damn thing and get it over with.
Fixing odumbocare is like trying to get a one winged bird to fly.........Tain’t gonna happen.
Yep. However, the GOP will roll over SOONER than later! Just watch.
