Christian organization cancels 'Duck Dynasty' event because Robertsons have wine deal
FOX News ^ | November 13, 2013 | Hollie McKay

Despite his devotion to dinner time prayers and Christian values, "Duck Dynasty" star Willie Robertson has been axed from speaking at a benefit in Bristol, Tenn. for the faith and bible-driven organization, Family Ministries.

Why?

Wine.

The famous family announced its latest business venture last week: Duck Commander Wines. In conjunction with the winemakers of Trinchero Family Estates in Napa, the Robertsons' own line of Red, Moscato and Chardonnay is slated to hit stores next month. According to the Ministries, Duck Commander Wines goes against the organization's core values.

"Our greatest responsibility is to the young people we serve. Therefore, we feel that in light of the recent news, to continue with this event would send mixed messages to the young people who go through our Adolescent Drug and Alcohol program," Derek Bell, director of development for Family Ministries stated. "Our message must be consistent. The lives of those children may well hang in the balance. We certainly apologize to the people who have already purchased tickets, and pray they understand our position."

Wine, subject to the self-control of the Spirit, is allowed per Scripture.

That proviso “subject to the self control of the Spirit” probably knocks out the vast majority of wine drinking on the planet, lol. I know I haven’t ever learned temperance with it. If it were so easy why all the biblical warnings against wine’s charms? It’s so easy to wind up drinking daily, and developing our little “precious”. If anyone can drink with true Spirit led control, God bless you and enjoy! If you can’t The Lord is MORE than able to free you should you desire it!

Still these threads are fun, and remind me of the pot threads where some FReepers used the creation and blessing of “herb” in Genesis as their justification for getting high.

What is the ONE factor, which removed from the situation, would have prevented this?

A: Alcohol.

<><><><

B. Getting behind the wheel of a car while drunk.

There is more than one factor, joe.

Why do they teach that it is wrong when it’s not? Is this something that is specific to the South?

No, it's just another self-righteous doctrine based on ignorance of the scripture and not on what the Almighty commanded. You find similar in every religion on earth. All quick to damn any who don't believe as they.

Matt. 15:10 When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand: 11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.

God bless the Robertsons for being great witnesses of the salvation available through Yeshua Messiah.

There are a few sects of dedicated Christians who believe that any alcohol consumption is wrong. They have a right to believe it, and to boycott anyone they wish. But they are outside the mainstream of committed Christians.

Drinking wine is no sin——its the abuse of wine or becoming a drunk alcoholic.

Of course, if one never drinks alcohol, one will never backslide into the behaviors it seems to cause when too freely imbibed...

...and DANCING isn’t a sin either.

But they reason that it leads to sexual desire, which may lead to misbehavior and sin.

I’m surprised at how many people CAN’T live without it.

I could live without it if I wanted to. I choose not to live without it, but also choose to be cautious in using it.

A couple of pints after basketball, replacing fluids and carbohydrates, containing a little pain killer is a big help in an old dude's recovery!

“That is not why Baptists abstain from drinking or dancing, as they are made fun of here.”

It is not my desire to criticize or make fun of anyone for abstaining from drinking alcoholic beverages or from dancing. But I am not aware that Jesus recommended, certainly He did not demand, such abstinence. The miracle at Cana certainly suggests that he did not condemn the celebratory quaffing of wine on occasions of joyful conviviality. The will to avoid excessive and harmful consumption is too often lacking, sadly, and the consequences can be sinful. But I, and I suspect you as well, reject claims that willful and determined desisting from drinking and dancing, or whatever, earns God’s favor and personal salvation.

First they axed Willie Robertson to speak.

Then they axed him from speaking.

The Bible does direct us though, not to do things in excess. And, not to be a stumbling block to those are watching us as a testimony to him. So, if drinking is a stumbling block for someone watching our Christian walk, and they see us drinking, then we are a stumbling block to that person. We allow them to be tempted by something that they are weak in.

In this case, if this church is ministering against drinking and driving in young people, then I think their decision is a wise decision.

Willie could speak at the Catholic Church near my house. Every year they have an Octoberfest on church property which includes a well kegged beer garden.

For me, a non drinking policy in a church is a stumbling block. Shouldn’t this be removed?

I agree with you!

While “DRUNKENNESS” is scorned in both the Old and New Testaments, the drinking of wine, both as part of a meal, or even within the context of Ritual, is not forbidden.

Those who claim it is are adding to the Word Of God, IMNSHO.

Watch people come out of the woodwork to name call and bash a Christian organization for standing up for its beliefs
