With momentum building at the federal and state level to increase hourly base pay, more than three-quarters of Americans (76%) say they would vote for raising the minimum wage to $9 per hour (it is currently $7.25) in a hypothetical national referendum, a five-percentage-point increase since March. About one-fifth (22%) would vote against this.
Voters in New Jersey amended the state constitution last week to raise the minimum wage $1 to $8.25, by 61% to 39%. Yet a Gallup poll conducted Nov. 5-6 shows that an even greater percentage of Americans would vote for an even higher minimum wage. Of course, Congress, rather than the people via a national vote, holds the actual authority to raise the minimum wage. Despite President Barack Obama's State of the Union call to raise the wage to $9 -- and widespread rallies populated mainly by hourly fast-food workers -- legislation that would accomplish this goal has thus far languished. More recently, the Obama administration has voiced support for the Harkin-Miller bill, which would raise the minimum wage even higher -- to $10.10.
A law that would raise the minimum wage to $9 an hour with automatic increases tied to the inflation rate is only slightly less popular, with 69% saying they would vote for it, and 28% against it. The amendment New Jersey voters passed does link the wage to inflation, but many legislative bills have not done that.

Stupid people who think there is a free lunch and the government can just wave a wand and make everyone better off. Hasn’t the 0bamacare fiasco given them enough evidence that government can’t create wealth. It can only loot wealth and waste it.
From $7.25 to $9.00 is a 25% increase. Ask those same people if they would favor a government policy that would raise the cost of a McDonald’s happy meal, their groceries and their Starbucks by 25% and you will get a 180 poll result.

while I realize that we live in a Nation hampered by communist Propoganada...I find it difficult to believe that MOST people are ignorant of the economic facts of life to “vote for” an increase in the minimum wage....PARTICULARY at the moment.

I don't believe that it did. Even with an Ultra-RINO running on the Republican ticket, suppressing conservative voter participation, Obama would NEVER have won without rampant voter fraud. It is a refined art to them, now.
In other news 93% of Americans polled want a pony.

“If the minimum wage were increased to $9.00/hour and it meant your milkshake, fries and McRib sandwich increased in cost by $1.00 would you be in favor?”
Such folks are the same ones who believe the public debt not to be a problem, and government-controlled health care to be a "blessing."
For decades now, and especially with a committed "redistributionist" as their leader, the so-called "progressive" Democrats (and some whose Party label is Republican) have refused to acknowledge the simple logic of America's 200-year success formula, and the writings of centuries of enlightened, freedom-loving individuals.
They, in their overwhelming desire for accumulation of power of government over people, acknowledge the taxing power as useful for restraining motivation toward what they deem to be undesirable behavior.
On the other hand, they deny the certain fact that "taking," or taxing productive citizens also discourages and restrains motivation.
Democrats, under Obama, now have endangered the liberty of millions yet unborn with their illogical arguments on behalf of "taking" and "redistributing" the earnings of hard-working Americans. They claim they are "taking care" of those who elected them. Their "taking care" amounts to enslaving every citizen, born and unborn, for generations to come.
Their claims would fall on deaf ears, if most citizens understood their Constitution's limits on the powers of government.
Let's hear what some Founders said about the policies of today's "progressive" regressive Democrats.

There minimum wage questions are always posed without the consequences, so why wouldn’t people agree to raising it? It’s no different than asking people who don’t pay taxes if taxes (on millionaires) should be raised. Sure, why not?
Most Americans don’t know what the “minimum wage” is all about. Most American have become stupid fools. That explains why we have America’s first enemy-as-president.
