From PAULA BOLYARD's wonderful article on pjmedia.com:Compare and Contrast: Leno Interviewing Obama and Cruz
Does Jay have a double standard? On Friday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz made his first appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Leno, allegedly in his last season as host of the Tonight Show, has not been known as a particularly partisan entertainer,
so it was surprising to see him go "Candy Crowley" on Ted Cruz...-- snip --
...Some on Twitter compared Leno to a prosecuting attorney as he interrupted Cruz and accused him
of everything from shutting down the government to wanting violent psychopaths to have guns.Cruz, for his part, used the appearance to his advantage, clearly understanding both the venue and the audience. It seemed to go over well with the audience, which erupted into cheers after several of Cruzs points...
Although Cruz is certainly more than capable of holding his own in a debate with Leno,
he chose mostly to keep his powder dry, defying the media-generated image of him as a hostile aggressor.
He was relaxed and laid back, despite the tough questioning.THIS THREAD will help to review, analyze and document that historic event. :)
Please feel free to add YOUR positive comments and suggestions.
And who knows, the folks at TEAM CRUZ might actually READ what you post here. ;)
Rightly so, Leno's straw men were no defense for the Cruz missiles that Ted launched.
The thing I can’t figure out is this. If Leno had wanted to do Cruz some dirt, he could have just not invited him on. Giving the guy a national platform is a Bad Idea for the left because he always comes off as poised, informed, and very, very bright.
So, Leno may have given the brain-dead left some gag lines, but they’ll never vote for a Republican (especially a real one like Cruz) anyway. To the conservative base, however, our guy looked cool under pressure and unflustered by Leno’s antics. What’s that word I’m looking for? Dang....wait a minute it’s “Presidential”. Yeah, Cruz looked downright presidential.
How can that be good for the left?
Great comparison. Unfortunately RonDog I was very busy professionally last week and couldn’t make it to LA, but I was shocked to see this is where Leno decided to take this! Your comparison between the two different treatments makes me even more disgusted. I thought Sen. Cruz did a fantastic job however!
Great points from Rushbo and right on the money. Thanks for posting!
Exactly. Great points and I agree 100%!
Daniel did not go into the bunny’s den, he went into the lion’s den.
Do you think that Leno acted nervous because someone in the District wrote his script? Not sure.
Jay's talking points might even have come from the GOP-e. ;)But certainly felt like SOMEBODY made him "an offer he can't refuse."
Rightly so, Leno's straw men were no defense for the Cruz missiles that Ted launched.Jay's "talking points" DID draw blood a few times...
...when he may powerful accusations, and then didn't give Senator Cruz a chance to respond......about the uninsured in Texas, the "government shutdown" -- and Social Security's slow start.
Ted needs to be able to whack THOSE targets as effectively as he did Jay's "gun control" attempted sandbag.
To the conservative base, however, our guy looked cool under pressure and unflustered by Lenos antics. You got THAT right!Whats that word Im looking for? Dang....wait a minute its "Presidential".
Yeah, Cruz looked downright presidential.
Because, there will ALWAYS be a "next" time...
Which is why he has Gov. Sarah Palin throwing it out there. They’re like a tag team.
I’ve met (and known) more presidents than most people due to my living in Iowa, being involved in campaigns and working as an intelligence analyst, so I know presidential material when I see it. That picture is it.
:)

IMHO it looked like Leno was trying to "knee-cap" senator Cruz (Or this was the "plan"-hence Leno having all the weird cue cards on his desk and his rapid-fire questions, then cutting off Ted before he could respond fully).
It seems obvious the left, (I don't think Leno came up with this on his own.), was hoping to catch senator Cruz off guard/take him out, with this appearance on Leno's show. To his great credit- Cruz appeared to be calm and in control, never once becoming rattled by the hyperactive questioning of Leno.
In fact from the first shot Leno took: "Which of the three adjectives- aggressive, arrogant, abrasive describe you?" And Cruz comes back with how amazed he is to be where he is, amazed to have the chance to serve, and about his dad coming here as an immigrant exc..(see video), he (Ted) completely disarmed Leno, and took over the show.
Yah, he could have said something about slavery being "law of the land" (at one point)" or women not having the right to vote" exc.., but his answer worked too. (I can think of a a few different responses now , but if I was on Leno's show, I would have thought of one response to the one question 18 hrs later- long after Jay and everyone went home- LOL.) Ted Cruz is lightning fast in his responses.
Impressive.
He came across as serious, but , more importantly sincere, in expressing his concern for where our country is headed.
Agree or disagree with the government shut down-Ted Cruz is Paul Revere-when it comes to the healthcare bill-He was the first one trying to warn the people of the horror that is coming towards them.
People will remember/appreciate him for this, even if they didn't like the tactics used. And they will remember him, as more and more of the negative parts of the healthcare bill hit them- cancellations/ high deductibles exc..
By the end of his interview, it sounded like he won the whole audience over-at least to where they gave him a large round of applause. (It was more than the FReepers in the audience applauding).
Great job FReepers! Your cheering could be heard loud and clear throughout the segment.
()P.S. I tried to get in to the taping, but, got shut out at the last minute. I'll post about that later. It was kind of weird how it happened, and I'm not the only one, who had that experience in line.)
IMHO it looked like Leno was trying to "knee-cap" senator Cruz...It felt that way to ME, too!...It seems obvious the left, (I don't think Leno came up with this on his own.),
was hoping to catch senator Cruz off guard/take him out, with this appearance on Leno's show.
Like someone else said, they were hoping for a "Charlie Gibson/Katie Couric"-style AMBUSH!Fortunately, they had THREE PROBLEMS with that plan:
- Senator Cruz was PREPARED for them, for the most part.- This show was recorded "live-to-tape," so they could not EDIT his answers.
- WE WERE THERE, to help influence the "crowd dynamics." :)
...WE WERE THERE, to help influence the "crowd dynamics." :)Here is a rare photo of the ALL THREE primary co-conspirators, in a screen grab from the PolitiChicks video. ;)
Has leftist Jay Leno apologized for his outrageous insult about the morality of Rafael Cruz (Sen. Cruz’s father)?
If he doesn’t, it certainly might lead to questions being raised about whether Jay Leno’s wife earns much money as a crack whore.
The applause for Cruz sounded great! I’ll be honest I wasn’t expecting it.
