Jack London was a very talented man, but my impression is he was an avowed socialist. This may have changed toward the end of his life, I think that some of his youthful experiences had so embittered him that he would never endorse free market capitalism. I always assumed that the short story The Apostate, about the wretched life of a factory worker, was autobiographical. Unlike a lot of leftwingers who are pampered intellectual elites or come from wealth, London actually lived a working class life. As I said, I’m not a London expert, just have read him a bit a long time ago. I was an English major before dropping out.

Mark Twain on Jack London:
“It would serve this man London right to have the working class get control of things. He would have to call out the militia to collect his royalties”.
I had forgotten that he also had controversial (to put it mildly)racial views, as did many progressives of that era. As I said, I’m not a London expert.
