Harvard Law outsider became Tea Party hero: In liberal bastion, Ted Cruz played a familiar role
The Boston Globe ^ | November 10, 2013 | Matt Viser

CAMBRIDGE — As the lights rose, Ted Cruz held center stage, dressed in black and kneeling at a bedside. The first-year student at Harvard Law School delivered his lines with the emotions of a man gripped by anger, fear, and worry for his reputation.

“Do you understand that I have many enemies?” he thundered. “There is a faction that is sworn to drive me from my pulpit. Do you understand that?”

Cruz, then a devoted amateur thespian, was playing the role of the Rev. Samuel Parris in “The Crucible,” Arthur Miller’s allegorical play about McCarthyism.

The lines — and the part — seem prophetic today.

In the US Senate, the Tea Party Republican from Texas has continued to seek out a spot at center stage. His enemies — and he has many, including some in his own party — characterize him as power-hungry, self-righteous, driven by single-minded political piety. He even mounted what detractors called a groundless witch hunt, against the presidential nominee for secretary of defense.

None of which, to his former Harvard Law classmates, is surprising....

Somewhat balanced, for a hit piece. I knew that they were going to use the McCarthy angle before I even read it. They've decided on a meme and they're sticking with it.

*PING* for later...a quick read of the first few paragraphs shows a "hit piece" that is strangely complimentary...Cruz really has a stellar CV so far, it seems!

Of course, you can argue "temperament and personality" 'til the cows come home...

It’s amazing how many Harvard Law Students remember Ted Cruz and have something to say about his time there but so few students remember Obama and his time at Harvard and Columbia before Harvard.

That's because no one in the MSM seems to be the least bit curious about Obama's past. I guess they're worried that if they find something negative it will get out somehow, and they can't have THAT!

if by chance Cornyn wins the primary, I want the option to have a third “no” on the ballot.

If “no” wins, Ted gets two votes.

“said Alan Dershowitz, who taught Cruz in a first-year criminal law class. “Every year you see two or three students who you know are natural leaders. Everybody saw that with Barack Obama . .”

the least bit curious about Obama's past

They had important stuff to work on like the status of Joe the Plumber's trade license and the DNA of Palin's Down Syndrome child.

I’d feel a lot more optimistic with the Tea Party if they avoid endorsing lawyers. There are many other professions which need to be represented in our governing bodies so as to have a better picture of what the country really needs.

People who have spent their entire college experience being taught how to lie, distort, bend truth have no business as elected officials.

Our country finds itself in such dire straights because we have been electing mostly people trained to lie and distort into every government elected position.

I burst out laughing at the “supposed” comment by Alan Dershewitz that he saw the same characteristics in Obama that he saw in Cruz.

THAT’S A BIG FAT LIE!!!

Well, I feel sorry for you that you cannot discern a real, genuine, honest and skilled person.

His being a lawyer does not mean he was “taught to lie”, as you put it. If that were true, he would never have been so successful in his court cases .. where the truth is an absolute.

Cruz is exactly what this country needs. Somebody who loves America and loves her laws .. and he’s not afraid of the left .. causing them to be caught with their mouth hanging open. And, Cruz has a happy outlook for America, declaring the positives he can see happening by American citizens rising up and taking their country back.

Don’t need your feeling sorry for me but you certainly need some help if you cannot see what lawyers have done to this country.

My proof positive is we have 9 of the absolute brightest legal minds in the country posing as USSC justices who constantly reach never ending 5-4 POLITICAL decisions not Constitutional decisions.

We have after all hundreds of these lawyer filth telling us that these 9 judges are so brilliant.

Well either the constitution is written in some long forgotten language or we have an entire legal and political system filled with dishonest lawyers.

Of course he was taught to lie by using half truths it is what law schools do.

Well .. you can’t paint everyone with the same brush.

When you do this you lose your ability to judge a person’s character.

I totally disagree with everything you’ve said.

Remember when the New York Times boys could find Wasilla on a map but were UNABLE to find Chicago?

No leaf was unturned in the MSM's quest to find dirt on Sarah - and no leaf was tuned to check out Obama. The suck-ups in the press are predictable... if nothing else.
