The women at the center of a lawsuit claiming their rights to dignity and privacy were violated by a Washington police department have spoken of their ordeal. Twelve victims claim they were filmed by security cameras as they stripped and, in some cases, used the toilet a at Payallup police station after being arrested for DUI. A Seattle defense attorney, who highlighted their plight, has likened the filming of the young women to 'a peep show'. James Egan, who is representing the 12 victims in a lawsuit against the police, told ABC News show 20/20: 'I've represented 1,000 people in DUIs, and I've never seen this.' After discovering that officers had been recording videos of mostly young women as they changed in police cells he contacted 11 women and a man who were alleged victims in the case in May. He said: 'This practice appears to be a peep show,' and added that his clients feared the footage could go viral on the internet because the footage is a public record.
His clients are now suing city of Puyallup, police chief Bryan Jeter and Lieutenant Edward Shannon for allegedly violating their fundamental rights to bodily privacy and dignity and engaging in unlawful searches and seizures of the inmates.

Justifiablen suicide watch on unstable wome
--Bugs Bunny to Elmer Fudd
I think this kind of taping is the norm, not the exception.
Pretty much everything at central booking is taped.
As usual, Bugs is right!

I may be mustaken but do they have cameras in toilet stalls...because based on the article they were videoed using the commode....
I would think that would be an invasion of privacy....
In the county lockup City of Los Angeles, there’s one toilet per some cells. These cells can have four to six people in them. Some community cells may be larger. If there are surveillance cameras, guess what, people are filmed doing the deed. Now, which is worse, the idea someone will see a video of it, or the fact that three, four, or more other prisoners in your cell get to watch in person?
BTW, the legal cousins of these attornies have been fighting for unisex for the last few decades. Now there’s a big deal about men seeing women in compromising situations? Funny, that wasn’t your take when we were saying it.
Now, let’s talk high school bathrooms shall we...
Cops need training to be perverts so they can arrest perverts./s
Hmm, I must have missed the part about them doing this to the men....
Cops behaving badly AGAIN
How do you know they don’t???
I’m REALLY getting sick of cops.
The British media does better coverage on American news than the American media.
In normal circumstances, it is my understanding that surveillance is allowed, without warrant, in only those places where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. Because of the potential of harm to themselves, police officers, and other inmates, the security factor is important in jail situations which I would assume courts would hold as taking priority over an inmate's right to privacy. People held in custody aren't going to have the same rights as everyone else.
I don’t but it doesn’t appear that they have.
You cannot expect privacy when in jail. Suicide prevention and all that.
If you had asked me before this story even appeared, I would have assumed there was surveillance at all times including bathroom time.
I would have also thought there would be restrictions on who could view the surveillance video.
On the second count, I am not surprised if I am wrong. When you put some men in that position, they have not self control or restraint. I would be surprised if there are not regulations, but not surprised if they are not followed, and if so, they should be fired, no doubt.
Looking back at the story, it doesn’t mention men being filmed as they strip. But to be realistic, if that were the case, there is no prurient or titillating value in it.
Most people could give a rat’s patootie if someone is looking at a man’s junk. And let’s face it, this is 20/20 on ABC (Hahaha...they called 20/20 a “news show”...now THAT really put some humor in this story) they are talking about. Realistically, if a woman (or man) wanted to look at men’s private parts I doubt they would have to resort to viewing surveillance tape.
But it is different with women, that is just the reality of it. I am pretty sure men are being surveilled as well, but there isn’t any interest in viewing that footage, even with female cops.
Hell, if put in the situation, the female cops probably want to close their eyes and look away when they see a guy pulling down his trousers to sit on the toilet.
-——Although the jail has a curtained off area for inmates to change, the women were ordered to strip in holding cell that has an overhead camera above.
After changing into jail clothes the women were returned to the cell and forced to strip again so they could put on their own clothes before being released.———
The jail seems to have a protocol for undressing in private unless you are a women....
Seems like a double standard is being applied....
Of course no cop wants to see a fat drunk naked old guy....
I see 20/20, ABC, Fox News and King5 mentioned — and they are all American news media.
