Tacloban The death toll from a super typhoon that decimated entire towns in the Philippines could soar well over 10,000, authorities warned Sunday, making it the country's worst recorded natural disaster.
The horrifying estimates came as rescue workers appeared overwhelmed in their efforts to help countless survivors of Super Typhoon Haiyan, which sent tsunami-like waves and merciless winds rampaging across a huge chunk of the archipelago on Friday.
Police said they had deployed special forces to contain looters in Tacloban, the devastated provincial capital of Leyte, while the United States announced it had responded to a Philippine government appeal and would send military help.
"Tacloban is totally destroyed. Some people are losing their minds from hunger or from losing their families," high school teacher Andrew Pomeda, 36, told AFP, as he warned of the increasing desperation of survivors.

2.45 pm: Trauma not yet over for Philippines, second disturbance looms While the worst may be over, the Philippines and surrounding islands face another threat mid-week, possibly hampering relief efforts in the storm-ravaged areas, said reports. For one, a tropical disturbance located north of Papua New Guinea could hit Philippines Tuesday night or Wednesday, bringing more rain and thundershowers to the area, said a report on Accuweather.com.
While the danger from Haiyan has left the Philippines, another tropical threat looms for the upcoming days, the report says. While this disturbance is much weaker than Haiyan, the disturbance is still expected to strengthen into a tropical storm and will return heavy rain to the areas devastated by Haiyan.
About 100 to 200 mm of rain is predicted in the coming days which, given that the ground is already saturated with rainfall from Haiyan, could cause inundation, mud-slides and flash floods. Sorry, it has only some English.
We've been scanning and trying to get a handle on it
MY theory is, the PH media hates Noy Noy as much as OUR media LOVES zero, and they do not want to recognize his leadership in the evacuation and being supplied before Yolanda.
Help me out, Al .. WV .. Lady
Sorry, but I am not into the politics here. I know nothing, haha.
Also, the feed is now on the hourly break. It is the same, however, that I see on my TV. They also give url links to the other Philippine stations.

Americans are very generous in situations like this, even when they are financially strapped. We will be donating to relief funds to help the victims of this terrible tragedy. But be careful who you donate to. A lot of evil, unscrupulous people will be setting up phony “relief funds” to take advantage of our compassion and generosity.
I don’t think you’re gonna get any reasonably accurate death count for weeks..
THIS is light years away from TV Patrol ... thanx for the link
There was a time that the US would be sending relief and ships. I’m guessing Precious is too busy on the links.

Yes, I am impressed with how well it is working. Sorry for the lack of English. But one can see the enormity of the destruction.
The government is protecting government buildings. And this chaos is homogeneous basically ie no previously axes sharpened or fires started in what was campaigned to be more civility.
The toxic waste is the writer
My wife is desperately attempting to teach me Cebuano and the occasional Tagalog ... I like to hear the language.
They went too fast for me to copy the 800 number ... do you know the US 800 number to donate ?
Just the usual lip curling liberal sneer.
