New York Times columnist David Brooks always knows he's sitting on a liberal Democrat set at the PBS NewsHour. PBS viewers don't want a real conservative that makes conservative arguments. Only insults are welcome. So in praising Chris Christie on Friday's show, he said the 2012 GOP presidential debates were "Looney Tunes." He was dead serious.
But when the subject turned to liberal Democrats in New York City, he made a very mild crack about the "Democratic intelligentsia, such as it is," and immediately retracted and apologized:

Painfully obvious they’re trying to change the subject.
Actually, he's right, they were... In 2014 we need one good, solid conservative running against the GOP's hand-picked RINO. Have the two of them hold five face to face debates with Republican moderators and let the best person win.
To insure party unity the losing candidate will be the VP running mate.
especially the one where george stephanopulus (sp?) couldn’t get his dirty little mind out of everybody’s underpants.
Never waste my time watching PBS but I’m familiar with the pretend ‘conservative’, David Brooks. He is total fraud who is on that network only to mislead the gullible that buy his act and assume he is reflecting conservative thought. Hardly.
I could take his comment at face value -- 25 debates is madness, looney tunes -- but given David Brooks's record people are going to interpret it as insulting to the candidates (and even to the people who voted for them).
That really can't be avoided.
I still want to know which 3 Departments Perry wants to close.
That’s the sort of thoughtful and descriptive characterization we’ve come to expect from Brooks.
Once he burst onto the scene, exposing the volatility of the Clinton’s relationship, during their Arkansas years, he was outed, so as to discredit both he and his writing.
Continuing to fear the blackmail of further revelations, Brooks has continually written for the liberal side, while pretending a “conservative” label.
“Conservative David Brooks”
Who?
“I still want to know which 3 Departments Perry wants to close.”
Perry’s performance was horrible.
Too bad; as he would have made an excellent President.
I thought I heard he was having some nasty back issues at the time.
Kathleen Parker is another faux conservative. And of course, there’s Joe Scarborough.
IIRC Perry had very recently had back surgery and may have still been on some pain killers. Except for that debate he might have been the current President. His handlers were probably responsible for that topic. He obviously wasn't speaking from conviction, unlike his usual forthright style.
Those debates were really stupid. All they did was give fodder to liberal media types to attack Republicans.
So does Perry.
Brooks is such a desperate wannabee.
