A controversy has broken out at Washington University in St. Louis over a Facebook photo apparently showing five students dressed up for Halloween as a Navy SEAL team capturing Osama bin Laden with garish neon water guns.
The photo was originally posted on Facebook on Oct. 30 with the title “Halloween ’13 Amurrica!!” reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The photo shows three dudes in camouflage attire surrounding a kid also in camo garb who is sporting a long, fake beard and turban. There’s also a guy in the background holding up an American flag.
Washington University student Mahroh Jahangiri later objected to the photo because she views mimicking the American military’s killing of Osama bin Laden as a hateful Muslim stereotype.
“As a Muslim-American who has been subjected to taunts of ‘dirty paki’ and ‘get the fuck out of WU and America’ on this campus, the reasons why this photo are offensive are painfully obvious and represent a broader, more aggressive (and apparently violent) Islamophobia rampant here at WashU and in the United States,” Jahangiri has explained on her Facebook page.
“This is disgusting and cannot be tolerated on this campus.”
School officials at Wash. U. have sided earnestly with Jahangiri.
No fewer than three high-ranking functionaries at the school including the chancellor, Mark S. Wrighton, signed a statement saying they are “disappointed and saddened” about the awesome Halloween stunt, notes the Post-Dispatch. The statement called the image “entirely inconsistent with who we are as an institution, our values and the way in which we engage in the world around us.”

Islam. Islam and liberalism were separated at birth, but now they have found themselves. Kind of like in those Facebook reunions when long lost siblings realize that they only lived a couple of miles from each other for their whole lives. In this case it was different wings within the same mental hospital.
Based on her comments she has sympathy towards islamic terrorists.

The picture was taken in what appears to be an attic which most likely wasn’t a university owned building. So, the university shouldn’t have any say on the subject. If Miss OBL doesn’t like America, she’s free to take the next plane back to Pakistan.
Surely Ms. Jahangiri does not see herself and fellow Muslims as having anything in common with that violent apostate from TROP (tm), the late Osama Bin Laden.
Surely she feels great relief that he will no longer threaten her country and fellow citizens with terrorist attacks.

Halloween 1967 Husband was in VN. My sister invited me to the local Church Halloween Party. He had been gone only 30 days and lots of emotions were flowing. The Youth Leader dressed up as a VC. I was horrified and found a excuse to leave. Will never forget it but have shared with no one except Him. Life is Harsh sometimes. People just looking for excuses to be offended. Project Description: A diagnosis of cancer imposes tremendous encumbrances on people of any age—physically, mentally, and economically. However, for young children, it can be particularly lonely and isolating. Until 1999, in Egypt, inadequate medical facilities and access further burdened patients, lowering the overall cancer survival rates to half of those in developed western countries. To address these issues, as a second‐grader in Egypt, Ayah helped fundraise for the newly emerging Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt (CCHE). Since then, the foundation has worked to narrow health inequalities by offering free access to high quality treatments. To give back to a community that is very dear to our hearts, we propose establishing a sustainable schoolroom program that will allow child patients to continue their disrupted education while playing, expressing their feelings, and gaining confidence. We will work closely with the hospital’s Volunteer Services Director who will help us ground the schoolroom as a staple in CCHE’s future.
