I guess this is why the gun control issue couldn’t push Cuccinelli over the top. A lot of people must have been splitting their ticket, and generally not expecting Mcauliffe to be able to actually do much to grab guns.

I actually think it had to do more with redistricting and the lack of challengers for a lot of House of Delegate members. Anyone that knew Cooch's record and NRA A rating and TMac's NRA F rating would have voted for Cooch.

The difference in the black vote alone would have changed the election in 2009, the black vote was 16% of the overall vote. In this last election, the black vote was 20% of the overall vote. With TMac getting 90+% of the black vote, this change alone made the difference in the election. And that's not counting the huge fund raising/advertising difference, GoPe dropout/non endorsement effect, McDonnell Star Scientific, federal government shutdown, and press effects.
