SALT LAKE CITY A coalition of conservation groups is hailing a federal judge's ruling Monday to strike down portions of the Richfield Bureau of Land Management plan they said gave deference to off-road vehicles at the expense of the environment.
"This landmark decision is a resounding rejection of the BLMs mismanagement of Utahs stunning public lands, said Stephen Bloch, legal director for the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance.

The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance was among seven groups that filed a legal challenge to the Bush-era plans following their adoption in 2008, contending they imperiled pristine landscapes.
The Richfield plan covers 2.1 million acres that is mostly sandwiched between Capitol Reef National Park and the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. It was the first plan to get its day in court, where critics detailed that its 4,000 miles of off-road vehicle routes threatened prime landscapes such as Factory Butte, the Henry Mountains and Dirty Devil Canyon.

how is one supposed to GET TO those “stunning lands..without an off road vehicle?? walk fifty miles??
Horseback.
Environmentalists make good compost.
Just make sure you pick up the road apples....might disturb the pristine dirt.
It aint their land to do as they see fit. The land is a trust held under management by the feds for the people. They as well as the USFS and National Park system should be fired and the lands given back to the people-the counties where they lay.
just turn left
Overturned on appeal for sure. If the administration wants it and appeals it. It strikes me as one of those things that today’s justice depart would just drop without comment.
Yet another example of anti-OHV forces using the courts to try to stop motorized recreation,” said Wayne Allard.
“It’s interesting to note that these anti-OHV groups are also challenging five other land management plans in the courts,” Allard said. “The six plans involve about 11 million acres in Utah, which is almost the same amount of land that the groups would prefer to be designated as Wilderness - and then would be off-limits to OHVs - under legislation in Congress called America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act.
“That legislation was introduced by New Jersey U.S. Rep. Rush Holt in the House of Representatives and Illinois U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin in the Senate, and is opposed by Utah’s congressional delegation,” Allard said. “So it’s clear that anti-OHV groups take overlapping approaches in their attempts to get what they want, hoping to succeed one way or another.”
FedGov banning Americans from American land.
FedGov may want to research an Englishman named Cromwell.

That’s just it “we’re not supposed to! Only the environmentally edjumacated and Gaia worshippers are allowed to use the land, Oh and large solar company that cover hundreds of acres with panels and wind farms that butcher raptors, other birds and bats. You, me and others like us are to stupid to use “our” land.
I lived in Richfield for a little while. Everybody had a little 4 wheeler thingy and the kids rode them to school and back
The environment eould endure a little traffic. I think this is about the oil around there
For all the easterners out there, land area in the West is usually described in squares, i.e., square miles. 640 acres per square. A modest ranch might be around 3 squares. This set-aside is equal to about 1.3 Delawares.
FWIW, a couple comments. First, the local governments are somewhat to blame in not claiming these trails as county roads (all it takes is a history of maintenance.) Second, my county, in Colorado, is larger than the state of Connecticut. 15,000 people and it seems crowded.
I once heard an Alaska State Park Ranger say, “Just knowing it is there should be enough”, referring to the park and its lack of access and closure to motorized vehicles.
NULLIFICATION! NOW!
Thanks for the Ping, George.
the gaia worshpping nitwits never visit such places.
let em visit DETROIT..
I asked if just knowing his paycheck was “there” was enough. He didn’t smile.
amazing how reality so easily thwarts these geniuses grand fantasies
Elect a constitutional sheriff and use the land. When the BLM and NPS Nazis show up, confront them with your SWAT team and watch the federal fascists run away and hide.
