California students continue to score near the bottom among states in math and reading, according to results of a national test released Thursday.

The Golden State's fourth-graders ranked 47th in the nation in both math and reading. Eighth-graders ranked 45th in math and 42nd in reading. And the scores show that the gap separating white students from their black and Latino peers in English and math is bigger in California than it is nationwide.

liberals refuse to see the obvious for what it is.

and look how much money is confiscated from CA taxpayers for such awful, awful results.

if the monopolistic unionized public schools were private companies, they’d go bankrupt. or at least fire their management, crap teachers, and get better just from these two moves.

The Los Angeles Unified School District deals with students that speak over 165 different languages.

We have parts of the greater Los Angeles area where if you make a phone call you’ll find Koreans, Armenians, Chinese (Manderin / Cantonese), Spanish..., you name it, and large portions of them speak no English.

There was a report floating around on the forum a few years back that stated less than 50% of the adult males living in the City of Los Angeles can read or write English well enough to function in the business environment.

Obviously the only solution is to further raise taxes and spend another 60 billion dollars on the teachers union.

I guess the author, Sharon Noguchi, is unaware that there are Asian students in CA schools.

These K-12 kids are a snapshot of CA’s future. Not seeing too many net taxpayers here.

A very good friend of mine, one I have know for over 50 years is a Teacher here in California. He has always been very conservative, but in the past few years has started to sound like a union representative, telling me how hard he works, and he is entitled to the pay he thinks he should have. It has really strained our relationship, I hardly talk to him anymore.
