Jail guards ignore 22-year-old inmate’s dairy allergy, killing him (Snohomish County, WA)

A 22-year-old man serving a short jail stint for pot possession died after corrections staff neglected his intense dairy allergy and seemingly ignored his frantic pleas for medical assistance, according to videos obtained by a local news channel.

Michael Saffioti was sentenced to jail time for skipping a court appearance relating to a marijuana possession charge. According to Saffioti’s mother, his extreme allergies gave him constant anxiety, and smoking pot helped calm his nerves.

Video footage from the Snohomish County Jail in Washington seems to show Saffioti questioning a prison guard about the contents of his breakfast on the morning of July 3, 2012.

Until we start demanding such “authorities”, big wheels and the political elite be held fully accountable for abuse, blatant negligence, corruption, and criminal activity against those they are sworn to serve, this behavior is not going to change.

We need to criminally charge them, and hold them accountable and they need to be incarcerated regardless of Party. The first thing we must demand is honest and responsive government.

They'll get away with some sort of reasonable suspicion of an inmate "playing" them .. or something like that

But they should fry.

He was just a kid (I know 22 ... but to me, no one grows up untill they're 33) and had turned himself in to deal with a relatively minor "crime" ... not someone who would game the screws

Don’t turn a jail abuse problem into something it isn’t

This is about law enforcement and jail procedures, not why he was in there, it could have been for an unpaid seat belt ticket or a crime related to tobacco, or murder, and the issue is still about the jail itself.

The problem with too many gummint jobs is that the training is all out of a book .... kind’a like the book holder read, or sabelius, or the mutant mulatto in the white hut.

Sorry ansel ... that's too clinical a reply for an age and era of such vast knowledge.

I'm 14 times more the thinking man since '98 merely because I signed up here and actually read, argued and debated a million other people, most light years ahead of me in knowledge and logic.

I read a different book than the ones they use to teach these guys.

Law enforcement is a “boys club” anymore. Entrance into the club comes with benefits including immunity from prosecution for wrongdoing.

This makes me sick. It shouldn’t have happened. They had his medical in their computer records. I pray they all are relieved of their duties permanently for negligence, and I know they will ultimately pay for their wickedness—and that’s what it is, too.

You should have seen what city jails used to be like, they neglected medical treatment, even after they over did it during interrogations and entertainment sessions.

I saw a guy who after being taken to the “rubber room” for his personal interview, healthy, was so badly beaten that he couldn’t be woken up and there was no place to even place him, except for the same concrete floor that he was thrown on, but the guards wouldn’t do anything.

This was what used to go on in the holding tanks, pre-trial, pre-conviction, even pre-charges.

Yes, of course, as I said we couldn’t get the guards to do anything, I have often wondered what became of him.

When others had to take their turn in the “rubber room” for their beatings, they didn’t suffer nearly as bad.

I have watched two handcuffed friends being beaten in the open, air-conditioned police office, full of desks, secretaries and detectives all in plain view, in fact one detective with a folder in his hand walked by, and threw in a kick, as he was heading for the file cabinet.
