Emanuel's gun bill weakened in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD— — Mayor Rahm Emanuel's effort to toughen state law for illegal use of a weapon is being watered down as the lead sponsor tries to win approval of legislation aimed at helping crack down on Chicago's violence.

Out of the bill is a provision that first-time gun offenders serve a mandatory three-year prison sentence, a major concern of opponents who worried that a careless mistake could put an otherwise law-abiding citizen behind bars.

It's the latest move by sponsoring Rep. Mike Zalewski, and it was enough to avoid National Rifle Association opposition. But Zalewski, a Democrat from Riverside, still heard loud criticism from a number of African-American lawmakers who argued for rehabilitation programs over incarceration.

Einstein said that insanity is defined by repeating a process and expecting different results.

The Left is insane when it comes to crime and punishment, because they keep thinking that their silly little laws are going to have any effect on criminals.

Here is one law that will have an effect on criminals.

Execute murderers.

Swiftly.

Dead murderers can never murder again.

But then the RAT Party would be losing voters. They want felons and dead people on the rolls.

I am no fan of mandatory minimums for this very reason. It's like the "zero tolerance" policies in schools that expel 9 years olds for taking the wrong bite out of a Pop Tart. It takes the common sense and discretion out of the process.

If you are going to have mandatory minimums, have the minimum be attached to using a gun IN A CRIME OF VIOLENCE like robbery, murder, or rape.

What caused NYC's crime rate to go down was a change in focus towards putting chronic criminals behind bars for as long as possible. If somebody has an arrest or conviction record which indicates he's a career criminal, then no plea bargains should be offered nor allowed.

—agree—and you don’t have to be a genius to figure out that the Rhambo organization would soon find a way to apply it only to relatively innocent mistakes , while plea-bargaining the gangbangers out-—

Note to the stupid........

For Liberals, EVERY SINGLE GUN WITHOUT EXCEPTION IS AN “ILLEGAL GUN”.

Except theirs, of course.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel's effort to toughen state law for illegal use of a weapon

That's fine so long as they word it carefully so that there has to be some concrete underlying criminal activity separate from the gun. They way statist hack tyrants usually word these things, they're so broad that they can become circular, where gun laws only liberals believe in can be the underlying basis for "committing a crime while armed", which is obvious Bravo Sierra.

But let's step back for a moment. If it's the violence you really want to stop, as you pretend, Rahm, why not toughen enforcement against THOSE behaviors instead of pretending a bank robbery with a gun is worse than one without a gun. But, since you're a Democrat we know that (1) every word you say is a lie, including your breakfast order, and that (2) you HATE your masters having civil rights that don't come from you and that you can't dispense, or withhold, or violate. So all this about the "violence" is just a subterfuge and both of us know it, Rahm.

If you can be dead and still vote (D), then what’s the problem?

Let’s see: felons in jail can’t vote but dead felons can. Check. However, felons walking free have so many other uses for the RAT Party. Dead law-abiding citizens who vote for RATS are bonus points for the Communists.

RAT TAUTOLOGY: Felons are operatives; operatives are felons.
