I know I'm overreacting, but it's almost like liberals like taxing things. No, that's silly...
Thanks.
The thing passed a year ago. I figured by now there’d be stores selling it.

Yeah! It's like using a slush fund created by the Tobacco Companies to pay for a cigarette-smoking lung cancer patient's chemotherapy.
That is just SICK!

New York has the highest cigarette tax rate of any state, and nearly two-thirds of the state’s cigarette market is illegal. In New York City, it’s not uncommon for smokers to pay $12 for a pack.
As a result 60% of cigarettes sold in New York are smuggled.
Large scale cigarette smuggling networks in New York State are dominated by tight knit nationality-based networks, primarily families through blood or marriage of Lebanese, Yemeni, Jordanian and Palestinian descent.
Federal and New York State law enforcement officials estimate that nearly 60 percent of all convenience retail outlets in New York City are now Arab-owned.
The open question here is whether New York is actually making less tax revenue on cigarettes due to its overtaxing of cigarettes. The question might be speculative if it weren’t for a figure like this.
New York has the highest cigarette tax rate of any state, and nearly two-thirds of the state’s cigarette market is illegal, announced the think tank Tax Foundation on Thursday.
his makes New York the biggest importer of black market cigarettes, along with the state’s highest tax rate of $4.35 per pack. That’s compared to Missouri, the state with the lowest rate, of 17 cents per pack.
In New York City the tax rate is even higher, adding another $1.50 per pack to the state rate. It’s not uncommon for smokers to pay $12 for a pack.
The report said that tobacco smuggling and the tax rate have risen practically in tandem since 2006. The New York State tax on cigarettes has risen 190% since that time, as the rate of smuggling increased 170%.
Draw the same conclusions with marijuana taxes.
Ping.
They bought dope illegally, smoked it and never thought twice about the police. Now they buy it legally for twice the price.
Wonder if the quality is any better.
Sour grapes. You're just pissed because you're dumb enough to work for what you have.

Seriesly?
kill joy
or is that buzz kill
Here in Washington they need to increase the taxes on all of the munchies like Cheetos and Cheezits. This is where the real tax money would come in from...
The tax should be at least 500%. minimum
Store fronts. Right now medical pot shops. Come January, the same but drop the ‘medical’ term. Pot is legal in Colorado up to 1 ounce but not to buy without a medical license. Come January pot is legal to buy from licensed dealers. Licensed dealers are currently those medical shops.
Don’t forget, booze was also a medicinal use only item during prohibition.
“all that appealing scenery, being marred by such degenerate trash.”
Same was said of liquor stores and still is.
I don’t know. I remember some visually attractive liquor stores. There was one in my hometown which, observing from the outside, had a really nice late-50s style architectural motif, and signage that sported a bespeckled gent (who looked like a cartoon-version of Arnold Stang) holding up a cocktail glass.
Although I’m sure it catered to the usual drunkards, it didn’t look like a sub-human hovel, with cretinous druggies who appeared as though they had just climbed out from under a damp rock lingering around.
Don’t forget, town have ordnances where pot shops can be located. They usually locate them outside the edge of town in the business/industrial districts. Not very appealing.
Uh, the real news is that we turned down a billion dollar tax increase for “education” by a two to one margin, despite the fact that the pro-tax forces (including out-of-staters like Michael Bloomberg and Bill Gates) outspent the anti-tax forces by about 200 to 1.
That’s not the “sexy” news, though.
It’s always for “the children”.
Send in the ATF to storm tax cheats!
So much for “ending the drug war”.
“Legalize it and tax the hell out of it” was never a good argument.
Well, that’s good to know. The thought of such dope shops in historic downtowns and similar locales really makes my skin crawl. Although I still suspect that the streets will be rife with dopehead hippie scum. Ultimately sours me completely on the thought of vacationing or visiting Colorado again.
