Conservatives Blame GOP Betrayal for Cuccinelli's Loss
Atlantic Wire ^ | 11/6/13 | ALLIE JONES

Posted on 11/06/2013 11:48:56 AM PST by jimbo123

Ken Cuccinelli lost the governor's race in Virginia, but here's the thing — he didn't lose by that much. Only 3 points. Because the race came so close, far right Republicans blame the GOP establishment for not doing more to give Cuccinelli a boost. The Republican National Committee put $9 million into Gov. Bob McDonnell's campaign in 2009. This year, Cuccinelli got $3 million. Cuccinelli "was betrayed by his own party," Rush Limbaugh told listeners on Wednesday afternoon, but the betrayal was not a surprise. Limbaugh said:

"In Virginia the GOP simply didn't want a Tea Party candidate winning there. They just didn't. 'Cause they coulda won that race, folks. I mean, it's really a shame. I was gonna say stunning, but it really isn't stunning."

Limbaugh, like many other conservatives, argues that contrary to the media narrative — Republicans win when they're moderates like Chris Christie and lose when they're conservatives like Cuccinelli — the opposite is true. Conservatives just need to be given a chance to thrive. But instead, resources were withheld from Cuccinelli, "So now the Republican establishment can run around and claim the Tea Party is an albatross around their neck."

Christie won because he didn’t have anything of note running against him. Cuccinelli lost because the Democrats brought in the big guns and because Northern Va. is a snake pit.

I’ve posted this a number of times and do so again inasmuch as THIS is a constantly recurring problem and some may not grasp how widespread it is.

If you want to know why I’ve cautioned my many friends to NOT SEND THE RNC A NICKLE, READ ON.

Over the years – when, to steal a line from Billy Joel, I wore a younger man’s clothes – I was involved with several pretty solid conservative candidates for Congress. One was a Democrat (Lawrence Patton McDonald) – because that was the only way he could win in that district. Those old-timers who know Larry’s record will tell you that he was a solid an anti-communist America Firster and more Republican than the Pubbies in nearby districts at the time. (His mother’s cousin was General George Patton from whom he got the middle name – and his incredible resolve and love of this country.) How ironic that he, like General Patton, was also assassinated by the communists they both despised.

Those other candidates ran as Republicans. Because I was a rabid Bircher back then (still am philosophically!), those candidates had to pass my rigid litmus test or I went looking for someone who did. For that reason, I hooked up with what the TRADITIONAL country club Pubbie establishment types believed were too radical for their refined tastes.

As those campaigns began to unfold and it became clear to the country clubbers that these guys 1) had a shot and 2) were pretty independent thinkers who would be hard to keep on the reservation once they got sworn in, the local Pubbies communicated that information to the Republican National HQ types who rather quickly sent in campaign “professionals” ostensibly to lock up the impending victory.

Instead, in nearly every case to which I was privy, these “professionals” proceeded to TORPEDO our guy’s campaign in subtle but effective ways.

From that experience I can tell you that the Pubbies at the HQ in D.C. would rather have a Democrat win a given district than have a pubbie up there who would embarrass them by refusing to follow the party line.

If YOU become involved in campaigns for solidly conservative, America and Constitution loving, hard-nosed, independent thinking candidates in 2014 and beyond – and I pray many of you do — please DO NOT trust any of those folks from GOP HQ in Washington. If they want to send you no-strings cash for your campaign, take it. If, however, they “suggest” sending in one of their “professionals,” tell them to fuggetaboutit.

They ARE WHO GOT US INTO THIS MESS AND THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS!!!!

“far right Republicans”

The ‘far right Republicans’ are those who actually stand behind the Republican Party Platform. The GOP has lost its way.

Cuccinelli lost because the Democrats brought in the big guns and because Northern Va. is a snake pit.

He also lost because the GOP-E, the RNC (but I repeat myself) refused to adequately fund him.

The GOP is dead. I changed to Independent and plan on only donating to actual small government politicians and groups.

And obozo’s incompetence at handling the STILL unfinished business of dealing with Hurricane Sandy left lots of those still homeless union democrats pissed at him and probably drove some of them to Sr. Rotundo!

That they need to relocate further inland and leave the beach is a conversation for another day.

“They ARE WHO GOT US INTO THIS MESS AND THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS!!!!”

I'm convinced there are liberal plants in RNC advisory positions. Steve Schmidt, for instance. When Palin joined the campaign, he freaked! He knew exactly how to “help” McCain lose but Sarah Palin was a threat. He tried to reel her in and after the campaign blamed her for the loss. The guy is a cancer and still at work helping Republican lose.

“far right Republicans”

Ask your typical uninformed Liberal who the Tea Party is.

WE know that it is a disparate group of people who want the best for America, and a responsible government.

To THEM, however, the mainstream media, and Twitter, and The Daily Show, has convinced them that the Tea Party is a bunch of science-hating southern racist redneck gun nuts, dominionists, and Westboro Baptists, intent on denying women’s rights, taking the right to vote away from blacks using coded language and violence, led by THE EVIL KOCH BROTHERS, who hate gays.

I actually had a low-info lib tell me exactly this, this morning.

And that meme is being reinforced, over and over, in TV Shows, in the news broadcast, etc.

They are conservative for pay. Politics is just a job and career path to the Steve Schmidt’s and Eric Cantor’s of the GOP. They have no core ideology other than wanting to get paid.

I still dont understand this (latest talk radio narrative)

‘Republicans always win if they act like conservatives but ONLY if the GOPe funds their campaigns’ ???

I never give the GOP money. Were we supposed to?

Our success or failure depends on GOPe help?
I hope this is not seriously the plan.

Didnt we expect GOPe to fund their own guys like Christie?
Were we supposed to send Christie $$$ ?

Well put.

Most of them would work for the Democrats just as readily.

I know, I was a pollster. Your professional reputation and your salary are tied up with providing accurate information (for the purposes of targeting expenditures), not with ideological purity.

It’s exactly like athletes; a winning record is more important than who you helped win.

The establishment was partly to blame. But give most of the blame to the MSM. Cooch would of won if it were not for them. I don't think it is a good idea to go wholesale after the Establishment in primaries I think a better way would be for the tea party to start demanding that they pay taxes. Since lowering their taxes are the only thing they have accomplished it is obvious that this is the best way to strike back.

Since they are conniving with the Dem’s on amnesty maybe we should connive with the same to raise their corporate taxes. We should also demand that the establishment corporates, unless they want their taxes raised, to start spending that money on some conservative media.
