Obama's simple promises vex complex health rollout

It sounded so simple. Too simple, it turns out. President Barack Obama's early efforts to boil down an intricate health care law so Americans could understand it are coming back to haunt him, leaving a trail of caveats and provisos in place of the pithy claims he once used to sell the law.

Jonathan Gruber, who played a central role in crafting Obama's health law, said the moral of that story was that most Americans are happy with their health care and are resistant to change.

"The view was, 'Look, we've got to get this across the finish line.' To do that, you have to explain to people in a way that they understand," Gruber, an economist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said. "You present the facts in a way that's ultimately not 100 percent accurate for every person, but tries to get across the gist of what you're trying to do."

When discussing this thing with liberals now, I feel a bit like a Jew in Germany in 1939 that is saying to my fellow Jews, “I told you so” as the soldier closes the door on our freight car.

In other words, you lie to the people so they don’t object.

The sheeperals wanted this, for the most part, because they wanted the cheap righteousness of “helping people” through their advocacy.

When we were warning them, we were, in their view, attacking their righteousness.

Even obvious reality like a door slamming shut will not shake some of them.

"If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health care plan, you'll be able to keep your health care plan, period." – Barack Obama, June 15, 2010

Period means "no exceptions." There is no wiggle-worm for the worm.

My favorite response was “I was all for it (Obamacare) until I found out I was going to have to pay”

Yup. Lies are the Novocaine of government. Really big lies that mask the destruction of entire economies are the core of liberalism.

From the article: “’You have to pay attention to what your opponents are saying, and do what you can to correct the record,’ said Nick Papas, the White House’s spokesman for health care for the first three years after the law passed. ‘The Republicans in Washington were lying to people and leaving tens of millions of Americans with the impression they were going to lose their health insurance, that this was going to be an apocalyptic development for the American health care system.’”

Wow. The reason they lied about people not losing their insurance was because Republicans were saying that people were going to lose their insurance. So, if they didn’t lie about it, the people would rise up in opposition to it, so they lied to be able to “sell” it. Never mind that in reality people actually ARE losing their insurance. Amazing.

Also from the article: “Anna Greenberg, a Democratic pollster who has studied public opinion on health care, said what’s been missing from the White House’s message is how completely dysfunctional the health insurance system was before “Obamacare.”

Really, Anna? At least 85% of the people were happy with their insurance before Obamacare. That’s “completely dysfunctional” in your world? Now, AFTER Obamacare, what percentage would you think will be happy with their “new and improved” (and more expensive) plans????

Germany had 500,000 Jews out of 67,000,000 people total. Had Hitler promised “if you like your life, you can keep it” that would have been far closer to true, percentage wise, than Obama’s blatant and intentional lie that we could keep our health insurance.

Note: I don’t feel at all guilty for comparing Obama’s lies to a hypothetical lie that even Hitler never told. Obama is likely to turn out to be even an even more destructive 21st century villain than the top villain of the last century.
