Holly Hill police say a family of five, including several children, were squatting in a home with a decomposing body, and have been collecting the dead woman's disability benefits.
Officers made the discovery Thursday, when the Department of Children and Families asked police to conduct a well-being check on Tiffany Kain, a 33-year-old who suffered from spina bifida, said Chief Mark Barker.
When police responded to a home on Ridgewood Avenue, they smelled a foul odor and immediately became suspicious, a police report said. They peered through a bedroom window and saw a decaying body.
Officers then found Todd LaDuke, Nicole Scalise and their three children, and determined the family has been squatting in the residence.

Maybe they were in love, maybe we should recognize their lifestyle choice and give them a marriage license to be with that dead body.
//stupid
Everyone grieves differently!
They weren’t collecting this woman’s disability benefits. SSDI implies the woman actually might have worked at some point enough to be a paying contributor to Social Security.
The check the leeches were cashing (actually, electronically) was Supplemental Security Income. That’s welfare for disabled or non-working (ever) people who need welfare. It isn’t funded from Social Security funds, but from the general government giveaway entitlement funds - welfare. The Social Security Administration only manages the payout of these funds. Both SSDI and SSI amount to TWENTY FIVE percent of all SSA payouts.
Couple the SSI with the family’s probable reliance on Section 8, TANF, WICs, EITC, SNAP and you have a government-supported shithole where the tenants are even too lazy to get rid of a rotting body. Damn...Just damn.
Obama promised us change and all us Eloi out here got were Moorlocks. Damn
I watched “Psycho” this weekend. Pity noone in the family had taxidermy as their hobby.
It might not have been dead, merely pinin’ for the fiords!
You’d think they would at least have had the sense to bury the body in the backyard some dark moonless night.
LOL
[if she hadn’t been nailed to the porch....]
This reminds me of an old episode of Thriller. An old man dies and his family decide that they really need his check so they find a hobo, offer him a comfy bed and all the wine he cares to drink if he’ll pretend to be Uncle Charlie. What they don’t tell him until they get home is that Uncle Charlie was getting a disability check after having lost both legs in a work accident.
No pics please.
They grew back?
Youd think they would at least have had the sense to bury the body in the backyard some dark moonless night.
What and look guilty? You would have hoped they would have had the decency to report the death, but these two were much lower than just drug addicts.
Add Medicaid, and there goes more than half of the "Social Security" payouts...
Nope. The couple cuts off the hobo’s legs. Since this was done in the 60s all they show is the look of horror on the hobo’s face and the husband firing up the chain saw.
