NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WTVR) A new poll put Democrat Terry McAuliffe seven points ahead of Republican Ken Cuccinelli in the race for Virginia governor. The Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University poll has McAuliffe with a 45 38 percent lead over Cuccinelli.
The poll gives Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis 10 percent of the vote. More than two-thirds of those who said they were voting for Sarvis called their vote a protest vote against the major-party candidates.

Sarvis is particularly shaving the Republican vote: 37 percent of his voters say they would have voted for Cuccinelli if Sarvis were not on the ballot, compared with 17 percent who would have voted for McAuliffe, Wason Center for Public Policy Director Dr. Quentin Kidd said in a statement. The Sarvis voters dont like either Cuccinelli or McAuliffe, but they look like a net loss for Cuccinelli. The fact that Sarvis continues to poll around 10 percent, coupled with the fact that his supporters are becoming as firm in their decision as the McAuliffe and Cuccinelli voters, suggests that hes not going to fade.

And for all those clueless Republicans who are considering voting for Sarvis, a reminder: Sarvis is no "Libertarian". ROBERT SARVIS WANTS TO PUT A CHIP IN YOUR CAR SO THAT YOU CAN BE TAXED FOR YOUR MILEAGE
Even Ron Paul gets one right now and then. He's campaigning on behalf of and endorsing Cuccinelli.
So Sarvis helps elect McAuliffe and in 2016 McAuliffe helps Hillary win the presidency by carrying Virgina.
Thank you Mr. Sarvis /sarc
Libertarians (if I understand them correctly), want minimal government and fewer laws/regulation. However, time and time again, the actions of the Libertarians play into the hands of the socialists.
Libertarians lean more conservative/republican that socialist/democrat. Knowing that he won’t win, and that his efforts are only helping the socialists, why does Sarvis stay in the race?
Once again the republicans choose to allow a thieving, lying, political hack to win a powerful position in government because the better choice, the republican, is not exactly what they wanted.
The classic example of cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Libertarian vote in Virginia usually is at about 3% on election day. The turnout never pans out as relates to what ‘pox on both their houses’ ppl say when polled.
We’ll find out that Sarvis is being paid by Hillary after Tuesday.

Sarvis isn't a true "Libertarian" by any stretch of the imagination (see that link I provided above, or do some searches on him). The VA Libertarian party is simply using him to gain exposure, etc. for future races.
This is also about the Republican brand being completely in the toilet. Republican is no longer synonymous with limited government, low taxes, and personal responsibility.
TM is gonna win and VA is going to become CA East.
I’ve been emailing Sarvis’ campaign, urging him to do the right thing and drop out. All I get in response are requests to volunteer and to donate.
The little monkey is a Democrat plant. This was confirmed for me during the final debate, when McAuliffe noted that he and Sarvis share many of the same views, and then proceeded to attack Cuccinelli as a right-wing extremist.
I have not looked for proof but I bet that if you follow the campaign cash he is being mostly funded by the Democrat Party and several Soros organizations.
Sarvis will be given a nice cushy position in the McAuliffe administration.
19th ammendment rearing it’s ugly head yet again.
I still blame Ross Perot for Clinton. Clinton won with 42% of the vote. Bush wasn’t perfect, but Clinton started the US on a decline that I don’t think it will ever recover from. (Of course, Bush didn’t help himself either)
Just think, if Clinton had lost, he would have been discarded like Mondale and Dukakis. He and Hillary would be trivia questions now.
Excellent observation!!
McAuliffe is also beating Cucinelli by double digits among women. He wouldn’t need to worry about Sarvis as a potential spoiler if the gender gap were not 20 points or more.
Why are women so stupid?
Libertarians, as I understand them, want to legalize pot.
“Why are women so stupid?”
Which is more stupid: Women voting or the men who gave them the right to vote?
It’s one of those chicken/egg things, I guess.
