Not surprisingly, participation in SNAP has soared during the epic downturn and ongoing job slump that followed the housing crash, with an additional 21 million people added to the rolls since 2008.

IMPOSSIBLE!!!! We are four years into the OBAMA RECOVERY!!!! Good times are all around us! Hoped has "started to make a comeback". The smartest man in the world is President, and his perfect wife (look at her arms!) has taken a personal interest in the nation's nutrition! This alone guarantees success!

How dare the evil CBS decry the OBAMA MIRACLE! RACISTS!

Sorry, I just don't see how they can always play it both ways. IF conservatives were doubting the recovery, the media would be regurgitating faux 'unemployment' figures as proof of Obama's genius.

Economists say this is an effective way to stimulate growth because the poor must spend almost all of their money just to get by. That, in turn, funnels money into the economy, creating a "multiplier" effect as food benefits spent in a grocery store generate revenue for other businesses.

Its like when I buy your mule, and you buy it back from me for a profit, and then I buy it back from you for a profit. We're both gonna' get rich, right?

Just ONCE I'd like to hear a leftist "economist" consider growth as a function of increased PRODUCTIVITY, rather than increased CONSUMPTION!

Simple economics at work. Create an artificial demand for unproductive mothers cranking out illegitimate babies, and you get an unlimited supply of both.

The picture at the link shows that she can afford many bottles of liquor (on the fireplace mantle), a smart phone and bottled water (on the table), but not enough left over for food.

"the maximum payment for a family of four will shrink from $668 a month to $632,"

A pretty small cut. Buy cheaper food and quit eating out.

And yet look at the photo in the article. . .

Bottled Water. Smart Phone. And on the mantelpiece, what appear to be several bottled of champagne or sparkling wine.

When she can’t afford tap water, a regular phone, and NO alcoholic beverages. . . . maybe THEN she has standing to complain. . .

How can we help this poor child?

Let me see here...
1. Look at the table. Bottled water? Drink it out of the tap like most folks.
2. Look at the mantle. Quit buying so much booze and apply that money to your food bill.
3. Sell the popcorn machine.
4. Get rid of the 0bama smart phone.
5. Stop buying disposible plates. Buy real ones and wash them.
6. Stop buying scented candles.

Problem solved.

Odd. This woman cannot manage to feed herself and her five children on $600 a month, but my wife manages to feed our family of six on $500 a month... and that includes the budget for cleaning supplies and paper goods.

SUPPLEMENTAL Nutrition is what it is called. It is supposed to SUPPLEMENT the food you buy for your family. If I knew it wasn’t covering everything, I think I’d buy lots of rice, beans, and the cheapest meats I could find. There are also food banks in communities and churches all across the county. My very small town has a terrific (Christian) food bank staffed with excellent volunteers one week every month. Help is out there for those in need!

She gets no sympathy from me. Normal people work hard, pay taxes, and have nothing left. Meanwhile, indolent slobs have one baby after another and don’t work, and don’t pay income taxes.
Because of people like this, people like me have only a small number of kids and still can’t make ends meet.
So I won’t listen to this selfish, lazy promiscuous slob who gets free money from the government to keep her voting democrat.

>> Feeding five kids is expensive... “I’m barely making it,” said the 31-year-old Washington, D.C., native and single mother.

Somewhere between one and five sperm donors, and not one of them will chip in?

Why’d you have so many kids? And no husband?

I feel sorry for those kids. You, Ariana? Not so much.

Feeding five kids is expensive, and the roughly $600 in food stamps she gets from the federal government never lasts the whole month.

Who forced her to have five kids?

The big questions are, 1) what time do the riots start tomorrow, and 2) in what big Democrat city do they start first?

If you can’t feed them WITH YOUR OWN EARNED MONEY, then don’t breed them.

So, what does a family with five children pay for groceries each month? Any Freepers care to enlighten me?

How much in child support is this mother receiving?

the maximum payment for a family of four will shrink from $668 a month to $632

I've no idea why I read articles like this, as they only serve to raise my blood pressure. They make me feel like a total sucker.

$632/month is more than my total budget for household expenses - Food, as well as laundry detergent, TP, toothpaste, etc ec etc.

If I had $632/month just to spend on food alone, we'd eat steak a whole lot more often.

The lady has a popcorn machine behind her, an industrial type mop bucket off to her left and wine and liquor lined up on the mantle to her right. It seems maybe she should examine her priorities or spending habits before crying about these cuts.

Not enough food but enough to have a lot of wine/liquor bottles on that shelf in the back.
