BRISTOW, Va. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal worked to nationalize the Virginia governors race Tuesday, presenting a vote for Republican Ken Cuccinelli as a vote against President Barack Obama.
Noting that Obama will campaign Sunday for Democrat Terry McAuliffe, who leads by 12 points in the latest poll, Jindal went through a laundry list of scandals that have best the administration: Benghazi, Fast and Furious, the Internal Revenue Service and spying on Associated Press reporters.
This is the most extremely liberal and incompetent administration in our countrys modern history, and its having consequences, he told 150 supporters at a campaign office in a strip mall here.
Jindal chairs the Republican Governors Association, which has invested $8 million into the commonwealth ahead of the Nov.5 election.
Youve got a clear choice in this election, and Virginia, you can choose to endorse, follow and double down on the failed liberal policies coming out of Washington, D.C., he said. If you want to strike a blow for freedom and limited government, tell Washington enough is enough.
Cuccinelli welcomed the presidents Sunday visit because he said it will make the choice clearer for voters.
When you see the president coming into town this weekend, you remember, tell your friends this is a referendum on growing or resisting Obamacare, he said.
Jindal also attacked McAuliffe as untrustworthy.
Im not saying he always lies, but when the guy talks he has a problem with the truth, the governor said.
He is the latest in the crowd of likely 2016 presidential candidates to visit the commonwealth. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) made three stops for Cuccinelli on Monday. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) came last month. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) joined a Cuccinelli conference call last week.
Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) is organizing strike forces to help mobilize social conservatives this weekend ahead of the Tuesday vote.
Cuccinelli advisers believe that whichever campaign gets more of their base supporters to show up on Election Day will win. So, the candidate and his surrogates have focused more on activating true believers in recent days than wooing undecided independents, most of whom they expect will stay home because they like neither candidate.
Jindal hammered the Obama administration for the botched rollout of the health care law, but he said the problem is much bigger than a website.
Maybe theyll bring in Al Gore, the guy who invented the Internet, to fix it for them, he said.
When I hear any of these clowns actually speak truthfully, then I will listen!
Good job!
