Sen. Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican whose father compared President Barack Obama to Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, says the president has "absolutely been abusing his power."
In an interview with Fusion, a new network formed in a joint venture between ABC News and Univision, Cruz said he was "very concerned about . . . the explosion of power in the federal government."
"We've got the NSA seizing our cellphone records, our emails, and we have seen this president expand presidential power in a way that is contrary to the Constitution," Cruz said.
Host Jorge Ramos recounted the comparison Cruzs father, Rafael who emigrated from Cuba during the revolution made between Obama and Castro. Then he asked Cruz whether he agreed, and whether he thought Obama was a dictator.
"Look, obviously there are enormous differences between President Obama and Fidel Castro," Cruz responded.
"But his point was, he was focusing on a statement President Obama made at the State of the Union where he said if Congress doesn't act to enact his agenda that he will do it anyway on his own," Cruz said.
"I think he has absolutely been abusing his power, and when you have a president who says, regardless of whether Congress acts, I'm going to force my agenda on the American people, that's wrong, that's not consistent with our constitutional protections."

Why should I vote for a party that hates me?
Why should I vote for a party that hates me?
Then don’t vote.
I guess the neo-Whigs have already decided to make their stand...
Romney and others like him only prolong the agony.
It’s time for a real, conservative, third party. At least we’ll be putting up a real fight.
But realistically, it won’t matter because Obama is wrecking us beyond repair. He’s bringing on the New World Order because until the USA is knocked down, they can’t implement the NWO.
Time to hunker down, get closer to God and get into survival mode.
If conservatives had voted for Romney we would have had Democrat-Lite
The GP is to blame, not the voters. They forced Romney on us- when 70% of GOP primary voters wanted someone else.
but what's the rush for democrats/socialists? they have been getting everything they want for the last 100 years and even more now. democrats are making socialist/marxist laws as in Obamacare. why do they even need to do any more since they are building their socialist utopia, instituting marxist principles into law , mandating socialism for all of us? plus democrats control the media, schools, academia, hollywood, the news media , practically everything so what else do they need ? they are getting all of their socialism as in Obamacare, the progressive income tax, wealth redistribution, welfare etc. and they have just a little of the private sector(capitalism ) pulling the cart , being the engine of the economy and giving them money to fund their big government. of course they loathe even a little capitalism and in due time that is their goal to eliminate all private businesses and all private property and all our rights. but they are getting there , law by law. and when they pass amnesty they'll get even more.
If we had voted for Romney, we’d now be using our influence to get him more conservative, not fight a dictator.
If conservatives had voted for Romney we would have had Democrat-Lite
There is no way Romney would have had us in the situation we find ourselves in today. Not even close. Obama is a Demon, Romney is a RINO.
Obama can do whatever he pleases without consequences because of his skin color.
I don’t know if Cruz brought up this aspect,
but if he were THAT ballzy and honest... hooo boy!
Had they phased in ObamaCare a little more carefully, no Republican would have said a word.
Any argument now that Obama is preferable to Romney is irrational.
I see - you do not care to address the actual question.
It was not asserted that Obama was preferable. Straw men have a nasty habit of being knocked down.
“It was not asserted that Obama was preferable.”
On the contrary, trying to rationalize not voting for Romney, instead of admitting it was a mistake, leads one to believe one does prefer the current mess.
Answer this question: Would you rather have a demon like that arrogant current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave or someone you call a RINO?
Facts not in evidence - nor fact in truth.
My statement was that there was a segment of the conservative base that clearly indicated Romney was not supportable. The outcome of the election pretty clearly indicates that they were truthfully stating their opinion.
You have translated the unwillingness to swallow a 30% excrement sandwich into being the same as willingness to swallow a 90% excrement sandwich. With all due respect, that is a huge steaming pile.
If you have your choice of any integer between 1 through 10, but are warned that picking 9 will result in being ineligible to receive the “prize”, but go ahead and choose
9 as your number, you shouldn’t be surprised that you receive no prize.
Once again, I ask you to define the phrases minimum standards and core beliefs.
PS - You seem to be assuming I did not vote. Assumptions are very dangerous.
Romney over Obama any day.
George Bush was a huge RINO and you accepted him. Give me a break.
