10/29/13 - Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman in early 2012, appeared on Capitol Hill Tuesday for a hearing regarding the controversial "Stand Your Ground" laws. When it came time for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) to speak at the hearing, he informed the still-grieving mother that Stand Your Ground laws actually benefit African-Americans as much as, if not more than, they do whites.
Cruz began by offering his condolences for Fulton's loss, but quickly moved on to defend the trial by jury process that found Zimmerman not guilty of murder. He also noted, correctly, that the "subject of this hearing, the Stand Your Ground laws, was not a defense that Mr. Zimmerman raised. So this entire hearing--the topic of this hearing--is not the issue on which that trial turned." Though Zimmerman's defense team did not end up using Stand Your Ground, it did come out during the trial that Zimmerman was likely aware of the law's protections when he shot Martin.
"We know that some in our political process have a desire to exploit that tragic, violent incident for agendas that have nothing to do with that young man who lost his life," Cruz continued. "We have seen efforts to undermine the verdict of the jury and, more broadly, to inflame racial tensions that I think are sad and irresponsible."
Then, Cruz got to one of his primary points, which concerned that effect of Stand Your Ground laws on African-American communities. He rejected the notion, put forward earlier in the hearing that "no one could reasonably believe that Stand Your Ground laws protect those in the African-American communities who are victims of violent crimes." He found that idea particularly remarkable since "a great many African-Americans find themselves victims of violent crime and have asserted this defense to defend themselves, defend their families, defend their children."
Cruz also cited the fact that "in 2004 a state senator in Illinois by the name of Barack Obama co-sponsored an expansion of Illinois' law providing civil immunity for those who use justifiable force to defend themselves" as evidence that similar laws could not possibly be racially biased. "The notion that stand your ground laws are some form of veiled racism may be a convenient political attack," he said, "but it is not borne out by the facts remotely."
Done!
The man has the guts to TELL THE TRUTH. A quality lacking in so many we send to DC.
She’s not grieving.
She’s celebrating her opportunity and new career path.
Any LSM spin first has to mention Cruz’ name (increase his name-recognition). Then his comments can be shrieked about on the RAT networks, more name recognition.
It wasn’t JUST conservatives buying all the weapons we’ve bought since the coronation. Media’s going to have a hard time turning this against Cruz in people’s heads who are not committed RATS... in their best interest not to report it at all.
Cruz deconstructs lunacy with laudable intellect.
It sounds like Ted Cruz just made Sybrina's S*** List big time.
“TrayvonMommy is going to be the next negro senator.
Bet on it.”
How much do you want to lose?
Ted Cruz is my hero. I was proud to vote for him as my Senator and will support him in any future election.
I watched it.
Damn he’s good.
Cruz did a fine job with his remarks. An irony to me about the entire Travon/Zimmerman incident is that the first time I ever heard of neighborhood watch activity was a TV news story about how black residents had organized a neighborhood watch to try and reduce crime in their neighborhood in Cleveland or Cincinnati, or some mid-western city.
None of the cheap political points some are trying to score are in any way supported by the evidence of that case.
Stand Your Ground for Blacks.

Because the demosocialist party wants a federal law to ban SYG nationally and trump state law. Shouldn’t hold up even if they legislate it. The’re after any infringement of gun rights they can get. mCane is probably all set to “compromise” We only lose with compromises, we lose some of our rights the left wins part of our rights, the only thing they “lose” is not getting all they wanted at one time.
The first thing I thought of when I heard about this hearing was that SYG had nothing to do with the Zimmerman case. My mind goes straight to the basic facts of the matter and I’m extremely glad there’s one politician who looks at things the same way. But for him to take it to the next step and explain how SYG helps black people too, impresses me even more. The guy is as brilliant and clear-minded as it gets. My only question is who he should pick as V.P. I’m thinking Scott Walker, since Walker is another no-nonsense guy (too no-nonsense to be at the top of the ticket though), and he can bring some more executive experience to running the White House.
And Ted stands up for us Little Guys once again...

Boy-O-boy, are the left going bonkers right now over Obama being on the wrong side.
Bah, who am I kidding.
Ted Cruz is the real deal, more so than anyone I have seen.
