Valentines? Notes on the Pussification of America
Fred on Everything ^ | 10 27 2013 | Fred Reed

It is time to get women out of the schooling of boys. It is way past time. Women in our feminized classrooms are consigning generations of our sons to years of misery and diminished futures. The evidence is everywhere. Few dare notice it.

The feminization is real. More than seventy-five percent of teachers are women; in New York state, over ninety percent of elementary school teachers are women; in the US, over seventy percent of psychologists are women, with (sez me) the rest being doubtful. This is feminization with fangs.

I have just read Back to Normal: Why Ordinary Childhood Behavior Is Mistaken for ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, and Autism Spectrum Disorder, by a psychologist, Enrico Gnaulati, who works with children alleged to have psychological problems in school, usually meaning boys. I decline to recommend it because of its psychobabble, its tendency to discover the obvious at great length, and its Genderallly Correct pronouns, which will grate on the literate. (I mean constructions resembling “If a student comes in, tell him or her that he or she should put his or her books in his or her locker”) However, a serious interest in the subject justifies slogging through the prose. (The statistics above are from the book.)

The relevent content is that women are making school hell for boys, that they have turned normal boyish behavior, such as enjoyment of rough-housing, into psychiatric “personality disorders.” They are doping boys up, forcing them into behavior utterly alien to them, and sending them to psychiatrists if they don´t conform to standards of behavior suited to girls. The result is that boy children hate school and do poorly (despite, as Gnaulati, says, having higher IQs). This is no secret for anyone paying attention, but Gnaulati makes it explicit.

As a galling example he cites one Robert, an adolescent responding badly to classes and therefore suspected by his teacher of having a “personality disorder.” From the book:

“She required all forty students in the class to design Valentine’s Day cards for each other. She was emphatic about wanting them personalized. Names had to be spelled correctly and compliments written up genuinely.”

Valentines? This was eight-grade English. Students, who by then once knew grammar cold, should be reading literature or learning to write coherently. In my eighth-grade class, we read Julius Caesar: “I want the men around me to be fat, healthy-looking men who sleep at night.” Valentines? Compliments?

This, the author assures the reader, did not take place in an asylum for the mildly retarded, but in one of the ten best high-schools in California. What must the rest be like?

Of course Robert was having trouble putting up with the girly drivel, this feminized ooze, devoid of academic content. ”Oooooh! Let´s have a warm, emotional bonding experience.”

This is why women should not be allowed within fifty feet of a school where boys are taught. A boy, especially a bright one, will want to drop out of school through the nearest window, run screaming to a recruiting office for the French Foreign Legion, anything to get away from inane, vapid, and insubstantial feel-good compulsory niceness inflicted by some low-wattage ed-school grad.

Get these ditz-rabbits away from our sons. Let us have separate schools for the sexes, with each being taught by teachers of the same sex. I do not presume to tell women what they should teach girls—astrophysics, valentine design with sincere compliments, whatever they like. Just stay away from the boys.

The thrust of current social propaganda is that the sexes are identical in all important respects. They are not. The differences are great. It is time we stopped pretending otherwise.

First: By their nature, females are far more interested in social relationships than in academic substance. If you are a man, ask yourself how often you have serious intellectual discussions of politics, science, history, or society with women as compared to men. Seldom. Degrees and exceptions, yes. Stiil, seldom.

Second: Women are totalitarian. Men are happy to let boys be boys and girls be girls. Women want all children to be girls. In school this means emphasizing diligence—neat homework done on time, no matter how silly or academically vacuous—over performance, meaning material learned. Women favor docility, orderliness, cooperation in groups, not making waves, niceness and comity. For boys this is asphyxiating.

If women wanted to start a bar for women only, men would not care. If men want a private club in which to enjoy male company, women go explode in fury. Totalitarian.

In common with the keepers of the Russian gulag, women are more than willing to drug little boys into submission. There is a Stalinist mercilessness in this, a complete lack of understanding of, or interest in, what boys are. (“Ve haff vays of making you….”)

Third: Women prefer security to freedom, males freedom to security. In politics, this has ominous implications for civil liberties. In the schools this means that wrestling and dodge ball are violence, that tag might lead to a fall and scraped knees, that a little boy who draws a soldier with a rifle is a dangerous psychopath in the making. This is hysteria.

(Stray thought: If I wanted to create a murderous psycho, I would Ritalinate him into a little speed freak, repress his every instinct, and humiliate him by having the police drag him away. It would work like a charm. In his trial, his defense would be justifiable sociopathy.)

Fourth: “Therapy.” This disguised witchcraft is very much a subset of the female fascination with emotional relations. It allows them to talk endlessly about their feelings. Men would rather be crucified. Thus everything becomes a “disorder.” Among these absurdities are things ilke Intermittent Explosive Disorder (appropriately, IED), and Temper Irregulation Disorder. These disorders have only been discovered since women took over the schools.

The list could go on. Boys, like men, are competitive, physically and intellectually, delighted to play hours of intensely competitive pick-up basketball. Women in the schools prefer a cooperative group game led by a caring adult. What a horror.

Even the ways in which men get along with each other differ sharply from the female approach. (Thus the desire for venues for men only.) For example, when I once broke a leg in a sky-diving accident, the women in the news room were sympathetic and concerned. At a Special Forces party I attended, there was laughter and sarcasm. “Goddam dumbass Marine can´t even do a PLF right. (parachute landing fall). Hey, let´s break his other leg.” Translated from the male, this meant (a) that they accepted me as one of them, and (b) that to them a broken leg was not a tragedy but an inconvenience. Which it is.

Fifth: In the United States, women simply dislike men. Saying this causes eruptions of denials. If you believe these, I´d like you to meet my friend Daisy Lou the Tooth Fairy. Check the ranting of feminists, the endless portrayal on television of men as fools and swine, the punitive political correctness and the silly anti-rape fantasies on campus.

In the schools this hostility takes the form of the passive aggression behind the predatory niceness. “We´re boring him to death, keeping him miseable, and sending him for psychiatric reprogramming because we care so much about him.” Uh, yeah.

Outside of the US, fewer women buy this. My stepdaughter Natalia, Mexican, is working on a degree in clinical psychology, and sees students—read “boys”—sent to her by teachers to determine whether they have ADHD. “They don´t have ADHS,” she says. “They´re bored.”

Finally: Women display a pedestrian practicality alien to males. If a woman needs to use a computer, she will learn to do it, and do it well. She won´t learn assembly-language programming for the pure joy of it. She can drive a car perfectly well, but has no notion of what a cam lobe is or the difference between disk and drum brakes. This is why men invent things, and women seldom do.

Boys schools, male teachers.

I never ever thought of wearing pants to school. and never in any way immodest nor non feminine.

THis guy is off.

And here we go with one of the most common logical fallacies out there: your anecdote about one person (yourself) does not invalidate the existence of overall trends. In other words, if 99% of female teachers are as Fred describes, then it is ridiculous to point to the 1% and base your analysis on that. Female teachers ARE emasculating boys and punishing boyish behavior, and the one in a thousand who isn't doesn't change that.

” That was in the 1930’s.”

I started school in the 30s too. They were hardly the good old days, but kids knew how to have no-cost fun.

Female teachers are not doing this. Men are as culpable. Tell us where men are working against this. What men, former Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts, allowed to happen to the BSA is an example

Men who claim being bullied by women, is my point

It is feminists that are doing this. Men and women

Boys are very disserved in this situation. A dishonest bigoted thinking is not helpful to them

The problem is feminism

Meant to say I always wore a dress or skirt. I look like a girl.

This guy is on target. The hipster, metrosexual boys of today are like yesterdays hippies on steroids. Disgusting! We need to get back to brave men and strong families. There’s nothing wrong with boys!

“Times and the culture have changed from a half century ago. For the worse.”

You are right. The sixties opened my eyes to conservatism and I never looked back.

A couple of years ago at a family dinner I mentioned that I didn’t like women baseball sportscasters/interviewers because it is a very male environment. My daughters and daughters-in-law looked at me as if I was insane. Needless to say I quickly changed the subject—and I’m a woman.

Good God, after reading the rest of these comments, I almost feel bad for singling you out regarding the fallacy of anecdotal evidence. Apparently, we've got plenty of Freepers willing to dispute reality.

I've noticed that there is, indeed, a generation gap when it comes to understanding US cultural trends here on FR. Those who are of the Boomer generation or older often seem to be unable to grasp how fundamentally things have changed since their youth. I'm a Gen-Xer, so when I read a story like this article it makes perfect sense, because I've seen enough examples of this sort of behavior from teachers that it's almost like a "water is wet" sort of story.

Leftism and feminism have been dominant in academia at least since the 1980s. However, those generations before mine seem bewildered as to why a blogger like Fred would make such a claim regarding female teachers, and I can only assume that it is because they had the pleasure of being taught by female teachers who had not, as yet, been completely immersed in feminism and leftism. I don't know exactly when the dividing line occurred, but the world pre-feminism and the world post-feminism are fundamentally different. In a way, Gen-Xers and those after grew up in almost an entirely different country than the previous generations, with entirely different cultural world views (among the ruling class).

Freepers then need to understand that the world of school teachers now bears little to no resemblance to the world of school teachers then, and the same goes with many other things. Citing the cool teachers you had in 1965 (as an example) has no bearing, whatsoever, to what sort of people you'll have teaching now.

And it is senseless to say that 40 years of women promoting a feminist agenda is the example of women throughout history of raising boys in this way. An article like this would not have been necessary years ago because this was only an issue of late

Women have been raising men since God created them to do so. He gave His Son to a woman to raise. That’s the design

Read any successful, ethical man’s bio and you will find a strong woman/mother highlighted. Reagan, Band of Brothers figures,

Never domineering mothers. Nor absentee, as with BO

Women are simply not wired to be domineering. The present culture is so

I don’t think he is off. A liberal teacher, male or female is a much different person than a conservative teacher. Most conservative women expect proper behavior from boys when they are in her presence. They don’t tolerate cursing or rudeness towards other females. I have seen women chew out men for inappropriate behavior and I’ve seen them ignore it when it was the better choice. They wouldn’t have had any difficulty sorting out a classroom of misbehaving children in a week or two.

I was born in ‘44 and most of my teachers were women, that is true. They were a different kind from today’s women though, they thought girls should be girls and boys should be boys. We had pot bellied stoves in the classrooms where I attended the first seven years and sometimes the teacher would send one of the boys to fetch coal or to start a fire if the janitor had not already done so. There was a big fat pine log out back and an axe where we sometimes would cut splinters to start the coal fire. This was in grade school! I can still recall the fourth grade teacher asking, “Could one of you boys loan me your knife so I can open this package?” The girls would have been highly insulted if someone suggested they could do anything a boy could do.

There were often fights on the school ground, I was even in a few myself, the teachers didn’t seem to think it was anything terrible, they discouraged it and sometimes a boy got a spanking for fighting but no one thought they needed to call the cops or anything. Almost every single boy carried a knife to school but no one ever got cut with one even if there was a fight.

In the first three grades some even carried cap pistols to school to play with on the playground, this did incur some restrictions though, the teachers would not allow using actual caps in them because it was too noisy.

That was of course before the entire world went stark raving mad.

I didn't see anywhere in his article where Fred claimed it was women "throughout history" (nor am I). He was merely stating that a lop-sided female presence in schooling is a big part of the problem NOW. The unstated implication is that feminism is the root problem, but what a lot of people don't seem to realize is that feminism is now the DOMINANT operating philosophy in our institutions, ESPECIALLY among (younger) women. Women born around, say, 1970 or later, are completely indoctrinated with feminism, with uncommon exceptions (such as, hopefully, Freeper women, but I've seen evidence of that not always being true). So, wherever you have an over-representation of women, you are going to have a somewhat slavish devotion to feminist ideals, and feminist ideals HATE masculinity.

Undoubtedly, there are a lot of sissified men out there who buy into feminism as much as the ladies, but the difference between even a sissified man and a woman is that a man won't see boyish behavior as a disorder that needs medication. Men expect boys to act like boys, while many modern women expect boys to act like girls. That seemed to be Fred's point. You can hope to de-program the feminism out of all the women tomorrow (ain't gonna happen), or you can, in the near-term, have male teachers handle the boys.

Let me put it this way, I teach classic literature and have a strong biology background. I know the stories of the Bible and some mythology

Human nature does not change. I was close to my family members born in the early 20th century, who watched this from the model a to the Challenger and read the business pages into their nineties, living in their own homes.

People do not fundamentally change. The Constitution will not change. Wimps may outnumber non wimps and allow all these changes in this country, but that country will not succeed, unless they can come up with a group like the founders, it would be one guy’s whims of the rules of the day

I cant speak to your accusations of everyone on the thread, but i know about the culture, and i accept its changes, but i do not necessarily approve, nor surrender to a notion of inevitability.

Teaching high school to kids hungry for truth and the natural order of things
Acutely aware of hypocrisy and not invested in the culture as dictated but driven by their own desires will clue anyone in who is willing to pay attention

The truth is that establishment feminism is a huge lie and it will eventually crash like an Obamacare website at some point

It’s also true that there’s no guarantee that western civilization has to survive, but that the lies under which it allows itself to live will not survive at one point

No. He didnt say women throughout history. He should have, then he’d remember this is a trend an unwise ill advised trend of feminism that, because of its failure toward men, will not last, so all women should not be thrown out of education. Their ideas of feminism should be.

Do you remember sling-shots?. They could be brutal yet I don’t recall any serious injuries from them.

Men were men, women were women, and kids were allowed to run free and learn,on their own,how rough life could be.

It is feminists that are doing this. Men and women

Thank you. And thanks for your previous post.

There are good male and female role models, and there are horrible male and female role models.

I would disagree with Fred, the author of the article, in that only men can teach boys. These days, too many "men" are faggots and predatory; too many are brainless jocks; too many are liberal. None of those are any better for educating young men than the hostile lesbian feminists.

And contrary to popular myth, competitive sports have in recent decades created the worst character traits imaginable among boys.

There was magic in discovering the raw power of striking an entire roll of caps with a hammer, and total bliss hitting the entire box of caps with a single blow. It wasn’t all that easy to get all five rolls of caps to go off at once. I think there were 5 rolls of caps to a box. I’m talking about taking the rolls of caps out of the box when going for the whole enchilada. I can almost hear the temporarily deafening blast and smell the pungent odor of the explosions, as I sit here at home recalling the fond memories of an unencumbered non PC childhood.

Remember the plastic rockets that you filled with water and then pumped up with air, then fired skyward? They were so efficient that even though the thought may have crossed one’s mind to aim them at someone else, you wouldn’t dare do it for fear of seriously hurting them.

Women have a lot of feminine power. As girls and turbo when they gain the trust of the teens patience, though. It takes kids a while

Boys need to know first that the teacher will/could never bring herself to use her power to emasculate or embarrass; then, when she proves, by action, that she is interested in their success and future even when they appear to be self destructive, and she has control and peace and the admiration of her peers.

Easy.

The caps bring back memories, especially on the Fourth of July.

I don’t remember the rockets but I do remember snow balls that were placed quickly under the faucet and then allowed to freeze. The boys threw them at cars and trollies. Not really too smart but that’s the way it was.

Again,no injuries but lots of pi**** off drivers.

We used to make our own slingshots, cut a y shaped branch and whittle it and use a piece of an old inner tube which everyone had in those days. We had plenty of small rocks to use for ammo. We also made the other kind as “Brother Dave” Gardner described in a comedy album about Little David and Goliath. He folded a blue suede tennis shoe tongue, attached two lines thereunto and searched diligently in the roundabout thereof for a smooth flat river rock. We used to actually use the tongue from a worn out work shoe with a couple of strings attached. We never learned to be accurate with one but you could throw a rock a phenomenal distance with enough speed to kill a steer if you could hit him in the head with it.
