"For Cruz, Schwarzenegger, and a number of other potential candidates, the Natural Born Citizenship Clause raises a critical question: Is anyone born outside the United States constitutionally eligible to serve as president?""

Well, if I remember, O’s mother simply wasn’t old enough to satisfy the citizen criterium. So O isn’t a natural born citizen.
No such problem with Cruz.
Not that it matters a whole lot but you may want to review this 1000+ post thread.

CATO Institute: Yes, Ted Cruz Can be President
A person can be either a) a naturalized citizen or b) a citizen at birth who does not require naturalization. There is no in-between. Cruz is the latter.

No but, I will support him never the less.
He is more American than a good many Americans
Aw, jeez... (you know the rest)
Notice that Yahoo lumps Cruz with Schwartzenegger, who clearly is ineligible.
What is your motivation for debating this question in 2013 on FR?Paul46360
If Obama is considered a citizen, then ANYBODY is considered a citizen. He has basically said anyone who is living in the country is a citizen. So . . . . . . . even Hitler, Stalin, Satan and Obama are American citizens.
Sarah ignores that question.
Finally, the natural born citizenship clause is both an anomaly and an anachronism. The way in which the clause differentiates among United States citizens is contrary to the overall spirit of the Constitution; the risk that foreign nobility will infiltrate our government is long past; and place of birth is a poor surrogate for loyalty to ones homeland in our increasingly mobile society and our ever more interconnected world. The best solution would be to amend the Constitution, as many legislators on both sides of the aisle have proposed over the years. In the absence of an amendment, the clause should be narrowly interpreted.
Sarah Helene Duggin is Professor of Law and Director of the Law and Public Policy Program for the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America. She has authored several academic articles
“His fathers Kenyan birth should have disqualified him.”
And possibly his adoption by an Indonesian citizen residing in Indonesia.
IIRC, the progs were making the claim that because McCain was born off the base, in a civilian hospital, he was not eligible. The claim is laughable, as are many of their claims.
Well J; you’re better than that.
Cruz is not clearly eligible but, he is by oblique reason.
Still, he is stunning as an intellect and embodiment of of American ideals of the past and the necessities of of our future.
I will support him.
THEREFORE ....
A toast to the U.S. citizenship of Eleanor Darragh Cruz that she passed along to Ted Cruz, and to her Irish/American heritage ....
Viva Ted Cruz for POTUS in 2016!
Are you crazy? Cruz was not born in Mexico or Russia! Silly to bring up such an unlikely scenario. We all look foolish when you float ridiculous variables to the discussion. We can not give countenance to rigid birther nonsense. /s
I love Cruz. Absolutely my favorite Senator right now. I would like to see him on SCOTUS or at the least a Governor.
The Republican Party Establishment needs to talk this topic up for sure.
They claim they support Cruz’s goal but not his tactics, but he must be destroyed and cut down to size so he can’t be the presidential nominee, much less be considered the leader of Republicans because he really tried to stop Obamacare while the rest are faking their hostility to it for election purposes.

Under the circumstances we were fed, yes.
What needs to be added to NBC is a certifiable verification process, which the Founders didn’t see as necessary because they were dealing with honorable men.
Mark Levin says yes. That’s good enough for me.
So communication is now a zotting offense?
