SANTA ROSA, CALIF. - 3:14 p.m. Tuesday, less than 10 seconds elapsed from the time sheriff's deputies spotted a 13-year-old California boy carrying what they thought was an assault rifle and the moment they shot him dead, only to learn afterward the gun was a plastic replica. It took 16 seconds more for the two officers to call for medical assistance, according to the time line of events released by police investigating Tuesday's shooting Andy Lopez Cruz, had been on his way to a friend's house (with a toy) gun... He died at the scene... seven bullets struck the boy, and two of the wounds were fatal... eight rounds were fired by one of (the) two deputies.

We live in a totalitarian nation. When will all of the FReepers going to acknowledge this. Bye Bye the America that we thought.
The important thing is that these two LEOs went home safe and sound to their families.
You just have to wonder how much more of this the public is going to tolerate! Cops now unholster their weapons at the slightest provocation and the usually kill their “victim.” Then it’s easier to lie their way out of the killing. Just such a totally unnecessary tragedy, and I will bet that the “killers” are back on the job before the year is over.
What the h? You don’t shoot someone for carrying a rifle - even a real one.
This is either only part of the story of these cops are seriously in trouble - or not. This is California where it’s illegal to think about owning a gun.
By the way, thanks to all libs in California and elsewhere who have contributed to this lad’s death by fanning gun hysteria. It’s largely on YOU.
These PO’s will get 3 moths + administrative leave (paid vacation), apply for unemploymnet, be reinstated with back overtime pay.
OTOH - The may spend the rest of their lives in remorse.
OTOH, perhaps they mistook this boy for a dog. /s
OTOH - The may spend the rest of their lives in SAN QUENTIN.
There. Fixed it. Probably won’t happen, but what better place for these yahoos to be “remorseful”?
I have been saying this since the Janet Reno Justice Department. But the root causes go back to prohibition and RICO.
But I think that most of Freepers get it now. What to do? No where to go. It’s a small planet now.
Is there a single example in the Unites States of a similar incident, in broad daylight, where an armed citizen gunned down a young man and did not immediately go straight to jail?
You do this, I do this, we're going to jail, there will be murder charges filed against us. We would not be put on administrative leave and sent home to hug our loved ones. The basis of law in this country is that all are supposed to be equal before the courts, but the reality is that there are two different legal standards.
That has to end. Blanket immunity has to end, open season on dogs has to end, open season on citizens has to end. I'm still waiting for charges to be filed for this incident where 102 bullets pierced a moving vehicle where no weapon was ever observed. It was blind luck that the home that was the backstop for that shooting happened to be unoccupied.
Officers who were defending a possible target in a manhunt mistakenly identified two small women as being a large black man. As you can see in the picture at the link, officers purposefully targeted the driver and the passenger, attempting to take them out. That both survived (one with minor injuries no less) was a miracle.
How would this have gone down if an armed citizen had done this? Would they be facing a review board and possible administrative discipline, or would they be trying to figure out where they were going to move to, as their house and pretty much all of their personal property was just about to be taken, either by the defense team, or whatever is left over, by the litigants who will win their personal injury case?
They got within 30 feet of the kid in their cruiser. It’s a pathetic situation. Anyone who can’t tell a child from 100 feet is blind.

I guess they are fortunate that this wasn’t my grandson...
“I guess they are fortunate that this wasnt my grandson...”
Maybe if the granddad blew away a couple of THEIR kids, they may have something to live with... Heck, if the granddad were eighty he wouldn’t have to do more than a few years in prison.
The ROE need to change for police. They should only be allowed to open fire if fired upon, if its good enough for our soldiers in a war zone, its good enough for police in the streets of America. Criminal charges should be brought to all cops who discharge there weapon before being fired upon.
Dar, “What to do? No where to go”
Start by asking your chief of Police. How much does our swat team cost all together and are their training records public? Either he won’t answer, or he will fib, or he will tell and you the truth and you will shityourpants. Coming to a theater very near you.

I agree with that 99%... I would go further though. Any cop who discharged his weapon would be fired. Their responsibility should be to defuse a situation to the extent that it would be nu-necessary to use lethal force. If they can’t do that, then find someone who can for the job.
Cops have adopted a rule of just standing off and gunning down any possible threat that enters their view, almost like a flawed cop robot.
People forget that the female Highway patrolwoman was getting ready to gun down Rodney King as her husband watched from their patrol car, when the LAPD showed up and probably saved his life.
I have been screaming to de-fund P.D.’s for years. Way too much money, too many toys, too much personnel. Too much power. Up to no good.
Police funding courts through fines. Attorneys getting elected and writing laws that are jobs programs for attorneys. LE self funding through seizures, directly benefiting personnel who do the seizing. Just a giant self funding, self propagating mess. A mess that preys upon peoples fear. A gigantic protection racket.
I recall as a kid walking the streets in Arizona armed to the teeth.
Out to get...varmints. Tin cans. A big snake, if we saw one...
shotguns, pistols, even (gasp) semi-automatic rifles.
You can see such horrifying behavior to this day...just head up to Redington Pass on a Saturday.
Shocking.
The police used to drive right by us.
But that was in America.
