Obama: GOP 'rooting' for ObamaCare failure By Elise Viebeck - 10/26/13 06:00 AM ET
President Obama blasted GOP opponents of his healthcare law as hypocrites after Republicans expressed concerns about the rocky rollout of HealthCare.gov.
In his weekly address, Obama suggested that the GOP's focus on the issue was in bad faith because Republicans have pushed for years to repeal, defund or dismantle ObamaCare.
Republicans "spent the last few years so obsessed with denying people access to health insurance that they just shut down the government and threatened default over it," Obama said.
"It's well past the time for folks to stop rooting for [the law's] failure."
Obama's comments come after a tough week for the administration. HealthCare.gov, the online enrollment portal for ObamaCare coverage, remained mired in problems in its fourth week.
The rollout has drawn fire from Republicans and Democrats alike, including former members of the administration.
This week, Obama announced several steps to improve the system's functionality, including appointing former White House budget director Jeff Zients as a chief "fixer" for the site.
Federal health officials are also benefiting from a "tech surge" involving experts brought in to triage the sign-up process.
Republicans argue that the disastrous rollout of HealthCare.gov indicates that ObamaCare is unworkable and have promised tough oversight on the implementation stumbles.
Obama pushed back on Saturday, citing the law's more popular provisions and explaining the logic behind the insurance marketplaces.
The website "gathers insurers under one system to compete for your business," Obama said. "And that choice and competition have actually helped bring prices down."
Obama also described efforts to repair the enrollment process, urged frustrated users to try enrolling by telephone and vowed not to give up until the process is smooth.
"We're only a few weeks into a six-month open enrollment period, and everyone who wants insurance through the marketplace will get it," Obama said.
The TEA Party is.
Now we know why he returned the White House's Churchill bust. Churchill's image was a stark reminder of the Churchillian wisdom on the efficiency and fairness of capitalism and individual freedom versus the certain failure of the counterfeit ideas of socialist dogma.
"When I see the present Socialist Government denouncing capitalism in all its forms, mocking with derision and contempt the tremendous free enterprise capitalist system on which the mighty production of the United States is founded, I cannot help feeling that as a nation we are not acting honorably or even honestly." - Winston Churchill, Woodford Green, July 10, 1948."We shall not allow the advance of society and economic well-being of the nation to be regulated and curtailed by the pace of the weakest bretheren among us. Proper incentives must be offered and full freedom given to the strong to use their strength in the commonweal. Initiative, enterprise, thrift, domestic foresight, contrivance, good housekeeping and natural ability must reap their just reward. On any other plan the population of this island will sink by disastrous and agonizing stages to a far lower standard of life and two-thirds of its present numbers." - Winston Churchill, speech, Blenheim Palace, August 4, 1947.
"The difference between what is seen and what is not seen was often noticed by the old economists. What is not seen is the infinite variety of individual transactions and decisions which, in a civilized society, within the framework of just and well-known laws, insure the advantage not only of the individual concerned, but of the community, and provide that general body of well-being constituting the wealth of nations. All this is blotted out by an over-riding State control, however imposing some of its manifestations may be. It is the vital creative impulse that that I deeply fear the doctrines and policy of the socialist Government have destroyed, or are rapidly destroying, in our national life. Nothing that they can plan and order and rush around enforcing will take its place. They have broken the mainspring, and until we get a new one the watch will not go." - Winston Churchill, speech, House of Commons, October 28, 1947.
"It is in the interest of the wage-earner to have many other alternatives open to him than service under one all-powerful employer called the State. He will be in a better position to bargain collectively and production will be more abundant; there will be more for all and more freedom for all when the wage earner is able, in the large majority of cases, to choose and change his work, and deal with a private employer who, like himself, is subject to the ordinary pressures of life and, like himself, is dependent upon his personal thrift, ingenuity and good-housekeeping." - Winston Churchill, speech, Blackpool, October 5, 1946
"Liberalism (classical liberalism) has its own history and its own tradition. Socialism has its own formulas and aims. Socialism seeks to pull down wealth; Liberalism seeks to raise up poverty. Socialism would destroy private interests; Liberalism would preserve private interests in the only way in which they can be safely and justly preserved, namely, by reconciling them with public right. Socialism would kill enterprise; Liberalism would rescue enterprise from the trammels of privilege and preference. Socialism assails the pre-eminence of the individual; Liberalism seeks, and shall seek more in the future, to build up a minimum standard for the mass. Socialism exalts the rule; Liberalism exalts the man. Socialism attacks capital; Liberalism attacks monopoly." - Winston Churchill, Kinnaird Hall, Dundee, May 14, 1908.
"The British nation now has to make one of the most momentous choices in its history. That choice is between two ways of life: between individual liberty and State domination: between concentration of ownership in the hands of the State and the extension of a property-owning democracy; between a policy of increasing restraint and a policy of liberating energy and ingenuity: between a policy of levelling down and a policy of finding opportunities for all to rise upwards from a basic standard." - Winston Churchill, speech in Woodford, England, January 28, 1950.
"It is curious that, while in the days of my youth I was much reproached with inconsistency and being changeable, I am now scolded for adhering to the same views I had early in life and even of repeating passages from speeches which I made long before most of you were born. Of course the world moves on and we dwell in a constantly changing climate of opinion. But the broad principles and truths of wise and sane political actions do not necessarily alter with the changing moods of a democratic electorate. Not everything changes. Two and two still make four, and I could give you many other instances which go to prove that all wisdom is not new wisdom." - Winston Churchill, speech, Bele vue, Manchester, December 6, 1947.
"It is not Parliament that should rule; it is the people who should rule through Parliament." - Winston Churchill, speech, House of Commons. November 11, 1947.
"We have to combat the wolf of socialism, and we shall be able to do it far more effectively as a pack of hounds than as a flock of sheep." - Winston Churchill, speech, 1937.
Although it is now put forward in the main by people who have a good grounding in the Liberalism and Radicalism of the early part of this century, there can be no doubt that Socialism is inseparably interwoven with Totalitarianism and the abject worship of the State. It is not alone that property, in all its forms, is struck at, but that liberty, in all its forms, is challenged by the fundamental conceptions of Socialism." - Winston Churchill, B.B.C radio address, June 4, 1945.
"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent vice of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries." - Winston Churchill, House of Commons, October 22, 1945.
"Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy." - Winston Churchill, Perth, May 28, 1948.
"I do not wonder that British youth is in revolt against the morbid doctrine that nothing matters but the equal sharing of miseries: that what used to be called the submerged tenth can only be rescued by bringing the other nine-tenths down to their level; against the folly that it is better that everyone should have half rations rather than that any by their exertions, or ability, should earn a second helping." - Winston Churchill, London, June 22, 1948.
"Socialism is based on the idea of an all-powerful State which owns everything, which plans everything, which distributes everything, and thus through its politicians and officials decides the daily life of the individual citizen." - Winston Churchill, London, January 21, 1950.
"The British and Americans do not war with races or governments as such. Tyranny, external or internal, is our foe whatever trappings and disguises it wears, whatever language it speaks, or perverts." - Winston Churchill, Speech, Dorchester Hotel, London, July 4, 1953.
"You may try to destroy wealth, and find that all you have done is to increase poverty." - Winston Churchill, speech, House of Commons. March 12, 1947.
"Nor should it be supposed as you would imagine, to read some of the Left-wing newspaper, that all Americans are multi-millionaires of Wall Street. If they were all multi-millionaires that would be no reason for condemning a system which has produced such material results.: - Winston Churchill, speech, Royal Albert Hall, London. April 21, 1948.
"Rich men, although valuable to the revenue, are not vital to a healthy state of society, but a society in which rich men are got rid of, from motives of jealousy, is not a healthy state." - Winston Churchill, speech, House of Commons, April 24, 1950.
The healthcare.gov site is "only the latest episode in a string of information technology debacles by the federal government," wrote Clay Johnson and Harper Reed, two programmers with political pasts (Johnson was Howard Dean's lead programmer in 2004; Reed was the brain behind Obama's 2012 digital campaign) in a Times op-ed.
The pair went on: This latest failure is frustrating for us to watch ... We must find a fix to the federal procurement process that spares the governments technology projects from the self-inflicted wounds of signing big contracts whose terms repeatedly and spectacularly go unmet.
The White House has promised that a "tech surge" of the "best and the brightest," including from Silicon Valley, has been brought in to repair the health-care site. But nobody knows, or is telling anyone, who those people actually are.
Contractors grilled at a congressional hearing this week wouldn't name names, and several tech executives questioned yesterday said they had no inside information on the makeup of the government's emergency coder team.
Verizon has reportedly been tapped to help with the revamp, but the extent of its involvement isn't known. Former budget official Jeffrey Zients is overseeing the rescue, but since he's not a known coder, his role is limited to managing the project.
--SNIP--
(In a conference call, Zients predicted that the site would "work smoothly" by the end of November.) But the episode has confirmed the suspicions of many in Silicon Valley that the government's infrastructure, even on key projects, relies too heavily on outdated legacy systems and could be run more efficiently by those inside their own camp.

What could possibly go wrong?
We are against the "fundamental transformation" thingy. Obamacare is just one of those things.
Hey kenyan... there is a huge difference between KNOWING THAT SOMETHING WILL FAIL and WISHING SOMETHING WILL FAIL... and they are not mutually exclusive. Whether we wish for it to be a failure or not... it has failed and it will never work.
Perhaps I am rooting for Obamacare to fail, but not sure how that effects the success of the law? I root for the Broncos to fail every week and they’re one of the best teams in the league. I also bet Obama roots for the Republicans to fail. Again, how is any of the relevant? The law is being implemented (notwithstanding the parts Obama illegally delayed) as written. If it fails, it will not be becuase of any group rooting for or against it. It will fail for the reason anything fails....it’s not any good.
Remember “Projection” .. a psychological disorder (according to Charles Krauthammer) ..?? Person A “projects” upon Person B the very crime Person A is committing or has previously committed.
It all started with the Stimulus. After it became law and the govt started passing out money, Biden was sent out to proclaim all the great things this money was doing (which was a great BIG FAT LIE).
Biden said: “The stimulus is doing exactly what it was designed to do”. Huh ..??????
So, I guess the stimulus “was designed” to cause a lot of failure .. because that’s exactly what was happening around the country. The unions were getting wealthy - and then giving it back to “O”; and green projects were the only place where “jobs” stimulus money was going (and then it was only to those who contributed to the dems).
OKAY .. fast forward just a few years, and we have another example of “Projection”. Sebelius (sp?) made the comment the other day by stating, “... they (the repubs) never wanted it to work in the first place”. Now, just think about that statement .. use the projection method .. and what did she just tell the public: THE DEMS NEVER WANTED IT TO WORK IN THE FIRST PLACE. Really ..????
It’s all on purpose. The software structure was OLD (I heard it might be 7-10 yrs old - 6 mos is old in computer software) .. there was no way it was going to be able to communicate with any of the new software. It’s no wonder it’s a mess.
Soooooo .. what was the purpose of all this .. ON PURPOSE the software was to collapse .. leading to the change over to SINGLE PAYER. Of course the public would be demanding it .. which is exactly what the dems wanted. They had to have the public demanding it in order to get the legislation through the Congress.
This is so evil and demented .. I’m at puke already with these people.
And any Congress person who agrees with O’care should lose their job in 2014.
Have a veto-proof majority in the House and Senate;
Permanently rid ourselves of Obamacare and all its evil reincarnations and spawn, until eternity;
Do away with amnesty likewise, and enforce the existing border laws, and scrupulously vet candidates for residency and citizenship;
Pass and ratify all the Levin Liberty Amendments (or whatever he calls them) to remove any special privilege or advantage of lawmakers and politicians over We the People;
And fully restore the Republic and Constitution.
They see, smell, and hear this Doom approaching them, and they are in a panic are trying to get their feculent Rat's nest in order before All Hell rains down on them in the midterms.
The intense hatred of Americans is upon them, and they are about to pay a horrible toll for what they have done to our nation.
BUMP
SO RIGHT YOU ARE
I wonder how much the “fix” is going to cost and where is the money coming from?
Thanks anyway, Mr. O. We’ll continue to push for complete dismantling of ObamaCare. The lefties voted for it; we never said we wanted it, IF you remember.
This is Alinsky positioning. It was designed to fail, so people would cry hoarsely for the pure socialism of “single-payer.” He projects his intention on conservatives, so they’ll get the blame for the problem he purposely createdso he’ll be able to ride in with the solution. The Final Solution, as it were.
So of course we are rooting for it to be a failure. Not only that, in my own small way I'm working against it. I'm telling all my family and friends how bad it is, why it is bad, and how unbelievably expensive and shabby the coverage is within it.
Great post, thank you.
Breathtaking that one of the first things Obunghole did after his first election was to remove the bust of Churchill from the OO.
Breathtaking and telling.
I remember back in high school (in the late 60s) wondering how free people could defeat an ascendant and darkening tyrannical communist scourge. I clearly remember the hopes we had during the Reagan era, but I was so disappointed that even he could not eliminate entire parasitic agencies. I would have more confidence if we had more men and women who went to Washington to defeat the true enemy, monstrous government, than join it and live large off of it, America be damned. Our side seems to now have shrunken to simply delaying ObamaCare by one year. Who in Congress except Cruz speaks to the horrors of tyrannical out-of-control government? Why are all the Republican voices silent on this horror?
Daren Jonescu had a fine article yesterday in American Thinker on this topic: When Frogs Jump that gives hope. Be sure to read it.
Just as we’d root for hitlers failure. Consistent...
Well that sounds like fun. How do the surrender GOPers fit in in your encouraging theory?
Obambi is a domestic enemy of the constitution.
I bet there were some Germans rooting for Hitler’s failure too.
