Dependency: "Is Welfare The New Normal?" we wondered in an editorial last Thursday, and we didn't have long to wait for an answer. On Friday an answer came back in depressing new data from the Census Bureau.
CNSNews.com's indefatigable data hound, Terence P. Jeffrey, dug into a few routine Census releases recently and discovered something shocking: More people in America today are on welfare than have full-time jobs.

Unsustainable.

I agree 100%.
We need to make things in America.
We need to stop importing everything, and we need to balance our trade.
We need to do all those things.
We are spending our country.
BRING BACK AMERICAN JOBS.
Now.

Why work when you can make more money living on the Government dole (welfare, food stamps, housing subsidies, etc), not to mention you are eligible for Medicaid.

Why should they work? Obama EO’d the ‘Secretary’ (Sebelius, of course) the power to tell states that they no longer have to get proof that anyone on welfare is actually looking for a job. Free money at the expense of hard working Americans who believe you should work for what you have. Obama did not grow up in America. HE HAS NO WORK ETHIC HIMSELF. Why should his minions have a work ethic??

Wonder what they mean on that chart by “Federal Supplemental Security Income?” Is that Social Security disability or something else?

I can understand where some people get on it to survive the way the job market is but as we know there are many more who are on it because it is there and they do not want to work and/or it is the only thing they know after being on it for generations. This is unsustainable and a bad thing for this country as we all know.

Meanwhile, there were just 101.7 million people with full-time jobs, the Census data show, including both the private and government sectors. This makes it far worse than the head line would suggest because the government is now the nations largest individual employer.
It all the worse because government workers taxes debts are paid from private sector workers taxes. Very few government workers actually contribute to the nations GDP.

And there are now more corrupt unionized government employees than exist in all of private sector America.

I played golf about 25 years ago for the last time. My boy discovered the clubs in the barn and trashed them after breaking some stuff with worm-burners and short shots.
obama has lead a much more charmed life than I; he wouldn’t last a good day out here.

They can’t possibly increase taxes enough to cover the monthly nut.

Agreed. I always favored a test before one can vote where they need to know how to read and speak English, know basic math and history as well. Go on welfare, you lose the vote until you get off of it plus a 6 month waiting period. The exceptions are if one gets welfare from being disable for a bona fide reason, but they still have to pass the test.

And if that continues beyond 2016 at the very latest, America is lost! WTF is wrong with the people in this country that they are willing to trade their freedom for “false security.”
