"Observe the self-contradiction and utter hypocrisy of the left: Dog owners should be prosecuted for allowing their pets to become flea infested. But how does one prevent dogs from becoming flea infested? Kill the fleas, of course. But wait! What about the fleas? Who is sticking up for their rights? Dont they have the same right to life as dogs? And where is the consistency in treating a flea problem by attacking the environment with insecticide....."
there was one summer in Taos Missouri when my poor dog and her fleas were Biblical
I had powdered the yard, the house, done flea dip after flea dip and could not get anywhere
I took her to the country vet and he gave her a shot of something used on cattle to keep them from being bitten up. Almost immediately poof! No more fleas.
I have always been grateful to that vet.
Fleas are parasites which carry bubonic plague, pneumonic plague, flea-borne typhus, tapeworm and cat scratch fever, to name a few interesting diseases.
I kind of FEEEEEEEL the same way about plants as these guys feel about animals. They are living things... And to think some people chop them with blades and use them for decorative pleasure!!!? Is it not OK for me to FEEEL this way??!?!
The idea that it is hypocrisy to love the dog but hate the flea is ridiculous. Even the dog knows that. Yes, the PETA bunch are loons, but the opposite extreme can be just as loony.
I would remind the author that love is not finite. One can love the Lord & love his dog, bird, children, & spouse, too. One can love all he wants without diminishing the love to any individual. Love is not something that requires rationing.
Someone needs to get his head out of a book & look around at all the wonders God has given to us - among them is domesticated animals. That man can bond emotionally with an animal is a wonder, & a good thing, not bad.
Who cares for the fleas? The flea shepherds of course.
Fascinating just reading this thread, I started itching, I started as soon as a seen the pic of the flea.
Fleas need a hug.
Some genetic engineer could make themselves wealthy beyond the dreams of avarice, if they could come up with some way for dogs to say a dozen words in a human language. Even if the words were just phonetic single syllables, distinguishable from each other.
Dogs can typically learn some 300 human words in context, and one dog learned 1000 words. Just being able to say things that meant yes, no, come, pain, hungry, thirsty, tired, danger, and syllables that mean the first names of the people “in their pack”, would completely change the relationship.
