(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, on Thursday grilled Cheryl Campbell, senior vice president of CGI Federal Inc., the company that built the Obamacare health care exchange website, on language hidden in source code that says applicants have “no reasonable expectation of privacy.”

Campbell did not contest that this was the cases,

“This is the part of the signup that is hidden," said Barton. "The applicant does not see this, but it is in the source code, and what that blue highlighted area that’s been circled in red says is: ‘You have no reasonable expectation of privacy regarding any communication or data transmitting or stored on this information system."

The HIPAA Privacy Rule “establishes national standards to protect individuals’ medical records and other personal health information and applies to health plans, health care clearinghouses, and those health care providers that conduct certain health care transactions electronically.”

“HIPAA is designed to protect the patient’s privacy, and this explicitly says in order to continue, you have to accept this condition that you have no privacy, or no reasonable expectation of privacy,” he said.

Frankly listening the dimboob committee member talking about how the issue of privacy is just a Republican scare tactic left me rolling on the floor laughing.

BUT I’m the kook.

This issue is not going to be outdone by immigration reform or anything else for that matter. Failure is on the TV for all to see.

If it doesn’t show on the screen, I’d say it doesn’t apply. Even more so if it’s just some boilerplate in a comment that isn’t even in the executing code.

All these jackasses that are signing up will have to make other arrangements when we repeal Obamacare. It will be repealed.

I am a pharmacist. Willfully violating HIPPA is a very quick way to get fired. It can also get you prosecuted and your employer prosecuted. HIPPA violations are very serious.

“It will be repealed.”

It must be repealed, one way or another. I am so ******* angry! Insurance companies, hospitals and doctors are already in turmoil. The wheels of destruction are already turning. Even if this Communist monstrosity was killed off today, the damage to our medical system has already begun and won’t be repaired soon, if ever. Those retired doctors won’t be back.

No kidding....!!

I'm a healthcare worker...and I could get ruined financially by the HIPPA police.

Personally I think it's just another Atlas Shrugged moment. We are at the point...where you will be breaking a law..and never know it.

Having been a coder for decades, I've see thousands of such messages. They generally point toward what other coders should find helpful in determining what to do as coding choices come up.

I would interpret this to mean that some lead coder is saying to those who may follow, "Don't bother going to any extra design or coding efforts to insure data privacy."

Perhaps as someone upthread said, "We don't need no steenking extra work to clutter up our lines of code!   Fast and loose, guys, fast and loose!"

This whole fu**n scam is a joke.

How many supreme court challenges will there be before this thing implodes?

EVERYBODY that voted for this POS should be hanging from lamp posts in D.C.

For you, yes, for the government not so serious, because data is everything what the government wants the government gets. Including all of Angela Merkal’s phone calls and text messages.

These guys are just f***ing insane.

I mean, SERIOUSLY f***ing insane.

I work with HIPAA requirements EACH AND EVERY DAY.

So according to these maniacs, I can simply disregard HIPAA now???!?

The whole lot of them need to be arrested outright. Put them in a state, put a barbed wire perimeter fence around the state, and call it a prison.

Apparently all you need to do is change your voter registration to Democrat, and you're good to go!

The Repubs should have at least 20 special prosecutors working full time.
I can promise you that the RATs would if the Repubs were this hubris.

Look. Understand something. The Republicans are completely co-opted now. They play the Washington Generals, while the Democrats play the Harlem Globetrotters. That’s why you see the Republicans taking any level of abuse, while the Dems never see a problem. In the end, everyone gets paid, while America gets PLAYED.
