The U.S. Air Force Academy may drop a religious reference from an oath cadets take to swear allegiance to the school's honor code.
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation has protested the "so help me God" phrase that was added to the end of an oath that has cadets swearing they won't lie, cheat, steal or tolerate those who do.
According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, the religious freedom foundation says tying the honor code to a religious test violates the U.S. Constitution.
The full oath reads:
I, (name), having been appointed an Air Force cadet in the United States Air Force, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
Whoever we elect as President... if he or she is a Conservative Constitutionalist.
Might as well toss out the Declaration of Independence too... /half sarcastically
How many grown men do you know who call themselves “Mikey”?
The cited oath is nearly identical to the Officer’s Commissioning Oath, and makes no reference at all to the Honor Code.
“The State is My Co-Pilot”.
None, but that was the point I’ve made in other threads on here about him.
“You will have a G-d.
The true G-d, the State, or selfishness.”
There is a pop song whose lyrics say in part, “You’re gonna serve somebody. It may be the devil or it may be the Lord, but you’re gonna serve somebody”.
Bob Dylan.
They probably will make the words “So help me God” optional.
From “G-d Is My Co Pilot” we went to “Dodd Is My Co-Pirate”.
no one should encourage any young person to enter the military....there will be a draft when our good young people aren’t there doing the heavy lifting..
