Minnesota’s teacher of the year decries ‘tyranny of the 1 percent’
MPR ^ | 10-21-13 | bob collins

That line in a speech during the annual Education Minnesota conference last week put Megan Olivia Hall, the state’s teacher of the year, in the line of fire.

Hall, a grade 7-12 science teacher at Open World Learning Community in St. Paul said:

I think about all of the teachers in the St. Paul Public Schools who gave up our cost of living raise in 2010 in an effort to limit class size in our district. Teachers are persistent and responsible and generous because we believe every child in America, regardless of circumstances of birth, deserves a decent chance at a good life.

From where I stand, teachers create equality of opportunity, from where I stand, teachers are a profession that takes a gritty patriotism, and from where I stand, teachers are the last line of defense against the tyranny of the 1 percent.

Hollywood and Wall Street are both Obama supporters. These three are the 1% she is speaking of.

Generally, the lower IQ students wind up as Education majors. They then teach your children whatever they’ve received from their union bosses and the Leftist textbooks their curriculum committee has chosen.

Home school your children if you can’t afford a worthy private school.

This left wing broad apparently doesn’t care that the 1% create the bulk of the jobs in this country, pay the bulk of the taxes, and in general make the country work.

They also pay her salary, benefits and inflated pension.

And what do the 1% get in return? Insulted, demonized, punished for their success.

When the SHTF, I hope the creeps like this indoctrinator get the sh*t end of the stick.

The lowest SAT scores (as a group) are school of education students in college. That says something, no?

They will because they have no other useful skills.

Hillsdale College no longer offers stand alone teaching degrees. They now require a 4 year degree in something real first.

I guess those Bush “McJobs” are now just Obama’s “inherited economic downturn.”

Poor little overeducated socialists.

Sure doesn’t seam to bother the Asian education system to pack ‘em in like sardines.

Might be because they actually know a good education = success, actually TEACH and expect parents to make sure things are going correctly?

Course, if one did not have to support the 47%, nor pay 40%+ of their $$ in taxes/fees/etc., one could just as easily do the same here.

Perhaps the Asian children haven’t the advantage of having their skulls filled with mush.

I had a college housemate that easily became unfiltered with alcohol. As “what is your major” was requisite party small talk, I often heard him declare “Mass Com (communications /journalism /media) — you’re dumb!!” and “Can you even spell ‘Ed-u-ca-tion’?”.
Needless to say, he wasn’t always the best company. However, he was usually correct.

teachers are the last line of defense against the tyranny of the 1 percent

What exactly do teachers actually do in the face of this tyranny?

I've not seen a shred of evidence to support this claim. It seems to me that rather than confronting tyranny, many teachers are happy to have tyranny at their back.

Yes, the...’advantage’. Nor condoms on cucumbers, re-written history, new NEW math (or the new Core)

Up and coming ‘3rd world’ sure seem to realize how to teach 2+2=4 w/out redesigning the wheel every 5-10yrs.

Say, when is the GOP going to zero out the Dept. of Educ. again (Hell, is that even on their platform anymore??)?
