Rep. Bill Young’s (R-Fla.) widow asked former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist to not attend her husband’s funeral.
Beverly Young made her request in an email sent Monday to Crist — a Republican turned independent turned Democrat — who is considering another run for office. The email was obtained by the Tampa Bay Times.
“This e-mail is to officially advise you that your presence at my husband's memorial services will be unacceptable,” she said in the email.
“I have watched over the years, as Bill had, your transparent attempts to manipulate the political arena. I don't want my husband's memorial service to be another opportunity for that and I will not tolerate anyone turning this into a platform for political gain. Please honor my families request.”
Young told the newspaper that she also asked two former congressional opponents of Young not to attend the funderal.
"Bill specifically said he didn't want his memorial service to be a platform for local politicians to work the crowds,” Young told the newspaper. “He's right. It's not only wrong, it’s disgusting to see that happen.
“He gave me the names of the people he wished wouldn’t show up, that was just three and we both know I don’t care about political correctness so I took it upon myself to honor his wishes,” she said. “I've been at many political funerals and listened to locals standing in groups planning their strategies. God gave people souls, but some don't know to take advantage of that God given gift."
Young died Friday at the age of 82 of complications related to a chronic injury. He was the longest serving member of the House.
The House canceled its session Thursday so members can attend the service.
A public funeral for Young will be held in Largo, Fla.
That you are so slimey a greiving widow has to go out of her way to ensure you won't attend her husband's funeral says a ton about character, or lack thereof for Charlie.

Yet this ‘grieving’ widow has no problem with our Air Force flying in hundreds of self serving dem politicos from DC. On cover of Drudge right now. Not taking up for Crist, but this strikes me as pretty low class. Just sayin.
Young was angry about the way his wife was treated. "Because she had on a shirt that someone didn't like that said support our troops, she was kicked out of this gallery," Young said on the House floor the following day, holding up the gray shirt. "Shame, shame," he said.
Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer apologized in a statement late that same day. Young said he was not necessarily satisfied. "My wife was humiliated," he told reporters. He suggested that "sensitivity training" might be in order for the Capitol Police..." Source
I seriously doubt she asked the Air Force to fly them in but he did serve for a long time so I’m sure many do want to attend his funeral. They could pay their own way.

Funny... all these years I focused on Clinton. The worthless slime-ball did do a 180. What’s funny is that his friend, not catching on, kept his smile and didn’t change his demeanor at all.
I use the term ‘friend’ loosely here. Clinton never met a person he couldn’t stab in the back... literally.

Please do not be so harsh on Mrs. Young during her moment of grief. She more than likely does not have the energy or may fear for her own if she were to stop all those Democratic politicians from using our tax dollars to fly all the way to Florida for her husband’s funeral.
Her husband was a good man and she is now must deal with all these career politicians occupying her husband’s funeral.
Please let her grieve.
I was thinking this was Tom foley’s wife for some reason but still agree that we should not be footing bill for any politico to go to this funeral! These ruling elites from both parties are getting on my last nerve.
