Good advice! There’s no way I’m getting out of my car if I’m ever in similar circumstances. If they surround the car and start beating on it, I’m going to punch something—the accelerator. If one or more of them happen to be in the way, so be it. I’d call it a classic case of self defense. If the legal system disagreed, I’d rather deal with that after the fact than have my wife and I beat up or killed.

Before anyone says deadly force isn’t justified to avoid a mob that only wants to rough someone up, not kill them, there’s no way of knowing that beforehand. Your best bet is to get out of that situation as safely and quickly as possible, and that means not giving up your best self defense weapon—your car.

Kind of like driving through Yellowstone Park and being surrounded by large grizzly bears.

If anything, this case justifies any future cases of self-defense.

The situation in Brooklyn shows that such an occurrence is life-threatening, and in such a situation you can do what you have to do to save your own and your family’s lives.

I recommended armed self-defense as a general policy, but I agree that in a car it may be better just to drive away.
