Col. Daren Margolin has been relieved as head of Security Battalion at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va. (Marine Corps)
The two-star head of Marine Corps Installations Command has relieved the commanding officer of Quanticos Security Battalion following an incident involving a personal weapon, Marine Corps officials said.
Col. Daren Margolin, a 24-year officer was removed from his post Oct. 18 by Maj. Gen. Juan Ayala due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command, said Capt. Maureen Krebs, a Marine Corps spokeswoman.
Krebs said the decision stemmed from a single incident last week involving one of Margolins personal weapons, but said she did not have authorization to elaborate on the incident. Margolin has also been charged with several violations under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, but the specific charges are not releasable because Margolins relief was the result of an administrative process, she said.
A legal officer, Margolin previously served at the Staff Judge Advocate for Camp Pendletons 1st Marine Division. He took command of Security Battalion in June.
The relief follows a series of deadly events involving firearms aboard Marine Corps installations in the National Capitol Region. In March, a tactics instructor at Quanticos Officer Candidates School gunned down two Marine colleagues before turning his weapon on himself. Following the incident, the schools commander, Col. Kris Stillings, was relieved of duty.

Sweet Haysus, another one...
The purge continues
*****************************
I’d be willing to be that the Colonel has a Virginia concealed carry permit. Can’t have officers in positions of responsibility who go to such extremes. /sarc
I simply do not understand why none of these officers will come forward. Not even one. After all, at least one of them must come from a wealthy family or have a rich wife.
Same goes for the Park Rangers. Why won't at least one of them come forward and tell the nation what they were told to do during the shutdown?
Perhaps they all take their oaths to mean they must stay silent in every case, even after retirement. Or are they too afraid of malicious prosecution? What other explanations can there be?
I wonder if it’s because Margolin believes in his 2A rights and his chain of command does not.
Nonsense. There is no purge, and some no name JAG Colonel would never qualify to be included in one were it to occur. I believe this to be the work of overripe imaginations in FR land and the increased availability of fine craft bourbons.
The truth is that we are not ridding our military services of nearly enough senior officers. Too many mediocre officers have been promoted above their levels of competence.
If you have to ask that, you don't really understand the range of nasty things a bunch like Obama and his henchmen are capable of. Serious pressure can be brought to bear in lot of ways.
It’s about 30 or so high ranking officers so far.
What if Obama is planning on turning America into a 3rd world military dictatorship?
Could you add me to that ping list? Thanks.
Thank you very much for sharing your view on this event.
Nachum, would you please add me to your list? Thanks.
Holy crap. Do you happen to have a list?
Why are so many high ranking commanders and Generals being fired all of a sudden? Or are these reports untrue?
If anyone can shed light, I would like to know more...
Major General Michael Carey, Commander 20th Air Force
Vice Admiral Tim Giardina, Deputy Commander, United States Strategic Command
Major General C.M.M. Gurganus, Commanded Regional Southwest and I Marine Expeditionary Force Afghanistan
Major General Gred A. Sturdevant, Director of Strategic Planning and Policy an US Pacific Command and commander of aviation wing at Camp Bastion Afghanistan
Brigadier General Bryan Roberts, Commanding Fort Jackson
Major General Ralph Baker, Commander Joint Task Force Horn, Djibuti,
Rear Admiral Charles Gaouette, Deputy Commander US Naval Forces, US Central Command, Commander of Carrier Strike Group Three , April 5, 2012
No, I don’t have a list. It was something I heard on the local radio news about a week ago.
Might these purges be more related to nobama’s feeling of insecurity?
Effective purges do not leave purged kicking and communicating. Don’t doubt that nobama would have them snuffed, if there was any conceivable way to get away with it.
I just get this gut feeling that every time he does one of these another Military counter confronts him.
Thanks, anyway, tho. :-)
Most glaringly....... General Mattis is not listed on that site. He’s literally a living legend amongst Marines - and just badass in general. And he was the CENTCOM CO at the time of his relief.
I don't doubt that for a second. But exactly what pressures are we talking about here? Just what pressures would be enough to silence an angry veteran?
Loss of a pension? Imprisonment on a phony charge? An IRS audit of a relative? What?
The NSA’s capabilities are in full force; Spying on Email, Internet browsing, phone calls, etc.. I wonder how many NSA employees the King has dedicated to spying on military brass?
