In light of a deal struck by Senate leaders to reopen the government and avoid default on the countrys debt, CNNs Van Jones cheered what he viewed as a humiliating defeat for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) who expressed his dissatisfaction with the compromise, while saying he would not take steps to block it.
Jones appeared on CNN shortly after the Senate announcement along with his Crossfire co-host Newt Gingrich. Wolf Blitzer began by asking the former Speaker of the House if he would have voted for this legislation if he were still in Congress. I have no idea, Gingrich said, explaining that he would need to see the fine print on the bill before making an assessment.
Van Jones, meanwhile, hailed the bill as a big deal that could ultimately affirm the governability of the United States. He praised heroes who worked behind the scenes like Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) in contrast to Cruz, who went down to a humiliating defeat today as he deserved.
But for Gingrich, today is a very sad day for America, because the president adopted a strategy of vilifying his opponents and refusing to negotiate and it worked. Without fixing the Affordable Care Act or entitlements, Gingrich said we were just kicking the can down the road.
Naturally, Jones saw things differently, commending President Obama for refusing to negotiate with a party that has been hijacked by its far right-wing. He added, The president stood up to the bullying. Im proud of the president today. Im proud Harry Reid today. Im proud of McConnell today. Im proud of Amy Klobuchar. I think Ted Cruz should be ashamed of himself.
Jones summed up his point like this: Nobody wins today, but Ted Cruz loses today.
I blame us. Cruz put his reputation and all his future potential to join the good ole boy fraternity on the line. We should have been at least a million strong storming DC to support him. Screw that “conservatives have jobs” meme. Fewer and fewer people of any stripe have jobs, and even fewer are going to have jobs which will support them and their families in any meaningful way. Those vets in wheelchairs and missing legs and arms had jobs too, but they were there in DC. I blame myself. It’s great to be a keyboard warrior, send a few bucks here or there, and consider yourself to have made a real contribution and be “down for the cause”.
The men in Valley Forge left bloody footprints in the snow.
We talk about being “locked and loaded”. Most people these days are so isolated in spite of our great so-called “connectivity” in the “virtual universe”. We are atomised, and that works for the ones dividing and conquering. Paul Revere got his azz on a horse and rode for miles, calling real live humans to action,
Tribulation is coming. May God have mercy on us, because the justice we deserve is too horrible to contemplate.
For all you who are offended, I put myself at the top of the list of those who should’ve been there.
What kind of tune will the media Obamafarts be tooting in another year of two? The smart ones are running from the embarrassment now.
CNN is not doing so hot themselves. They just got pulled a few weeks ago in markets in 19 states because of inability for them and Cableone to come to terms.
I hate to pop Van Jone’s bubble, but Cruz wasn’t the looser....we the American public is....but don’t worry, this government has OBAMA written all over it, and that is his legacy: Another Jimmy Carter, worst president in all of American History....
“..If the Tea Party in congress doesnt get rid of boner, they now fall into the worthless category...”
::::::::::::::
The Congress in general, is a total failure. They have held NOBODY, not even Obama, accountable in real terms for any of the total financial, political and governmental destruction that has been deliberately put upon America and its people. How bad does it have to get???
Once again the republicans have agreed to kick responsibility down the road for a handful of empty promises.
Hell, Boehner, McConnell, McLame, et al. won't make Bammy even abide by The Constitution, so they're not going to make him do anything. Besides, Boehner doesn't want to miss happy hour.
Boehner will not put the deal up for a vote unless a majority of Republicans support it because he knows he will be ousted as speaker if he does.
The white house is celebrating what? Did congress vote yet?
We’ll see who has the last laugh commie.
jones is a communist pig
I don’t see how Cruz lost. He accomplished his objective in awakening the grass roots.
Check his popularity with conservatives....then tell me he failed!!!
There is no deal yet. I really shouldn’t have to tell freepers not to believe the incessant lies of the drive-by media and the White Hut.
The world's upside down.
Ted Cruz was not defeated.
The GOPe committed suicide.
They are toast.
He who laughs last...
So... if they wanted to, how and when could they replace Boehner?
Gingrich response was impressive. How can anyone celebrate another “secret” deal.
