In NJ it was a big plus that the establishment actually endorsed Steve instead of opposing him and the Governor actually made one or two campaign appearances with him. Anyone reading this who hasn’t yet voted GO VOTE LONEGAN NOW!!!!

Your question to NJ FReepers was answered by FReepers in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Texas . As an actual NJ FReeper, The GOP establishment in NJ supported Lonegan which is a big plus given the history of this state and Christie made one or two campaign appearances with him.
The date of the primary and the Special Election was set by Chris Christie. His reasoning was that the governor would ensure that a high-profile Democratic Senate candidate would not be running at the top of the ‘Rat ticket in November, when he and other Republicans are running in the general election. Such a candidate on the ballot would have helped attract support to other Democrats running for lower-level offices.
I have no idea whatsoever. What he did do was put Chiesa out in the open so that he was able to expose himself to potential voters and remove any threat he posed to Christie.

It’s pretty much become standard operating procedure these days whenever there is a vacancy in a House or Senate seat in most states. Some states have laws that mandate special elections be held within a period of time following the announcement of the vacancy.
For example, in the state of Washington election law states:
(1) Whenever a vacancy occurs in the United States house of representatives or the United States senate from this state, the governor shall order a special election to fill the vacancy. Minor political party candidates and independent candidates may be nominated through the convention procedures provided in chapter 29A.20 RCW.
(2) Within ten days of such vacancy occurring, he or she shall issue a writ of election fixing a date for the primary at least seventy days after issuance of the writ, and fixing a date for the election at least seventy days after the date of the primary. If the vacancy is in the office of United States representative, the writ of election shall specify the congressional district that is vacant.

They usually have all of the polling information in one place.
The New Jersey Board of Elections is NOT putting the results on its website.
“Politico” is listing the results. I believe they get them from the AP. Right now there looks like only a very small number of mail ballots are listed in just one county. Totals are very close with results coming from a Democrat stronghold! We shall see!!!
