President Obama phoned Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Monday as senators worked to finalize a deal that could reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling.

Neither White House nor congressional aides would provide details of the discussion, which came despite the president cancelation of a planned afternoon meeting with McConnell and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

I think it works like this. The Senate Rinos are the week link. Obama makes a deal with them then he tells the House conservatives, “This is what the Senate will approve, nothing else, now send it or I’ll tell everybody you won’t work out a solution”. It makes the Senate Rinos worse than traitors.

What McConnell is doing here is one of the most insidious acts I've seen in a long time. It's one thing for Obama and Reid to play games here- they're leftists trying to win, after all- but for the fossil McConnell to try to jam his own party in the House is beyond repulsive.
