'So much wrong': Aetna CEO blasts Obamacare tech debacle
CNBC ^ | October 14, 2013 | Dan Mangan

Posted on 10/15/2013 5:26:50 AM PDT by don-o

Aetna's CEO gave a harshly critical review Monday of the federal government's Obamacare marketplace, saying, "There's so much wrong, you just don't know what's broken until you get a lot more of it fixed."

Asked on CNBC's "Squawk Box" if he knew that the rollout of Healthcare.gov would be problematic, the insurer's CEO, Mark Bertolini, said his giant company's role as an alpha tester for the system gave it a sense of how many problems the health insurance marketplace faced on the eve of its launch.

"We were pretty nervous as we got further along," Bertolini said. "As they started missing deadlines, we were pretty convinced it was going to be a difficult launch."

His fears have been realized, he said, and the technological debacle seen at Healthcare.gov is one similar to just the handful he's witnessed in his career.

"It's nothing you ever like to repeat," Bertolini said. "Because it's very difficult. I've been there. It's career-ending in a lot of cases."

'On the fly'

"It's all been on the fly," Bertolini said of the construction of the marketplace and the integration of insurers such as Aetna, whose plans are being offered to up 40 million customers.

"We didn't get code drops until the last month before the system went live," he said.

However, Bertolini also said, "it's the law of the land"

Nobody addresses what’s really wrong with Ocare. It is a take over of people’s liberties. It’s total control. It is a means of destroying a once great country. “Computer glitches” my ass!

It's all on purpose.

They don't want people to know how much it is going to cost.

And therin lies the problem. In the private sector there are consequences.

In the public there are just excuses.... and a call for more $$$ to fix a bad idea/product

The liberal fallback position on Obamacare is that it is actually a conspiracy by the insurance companies, and that more laws are needed to realize effective health care reform.

This is of course an excellent motivation for Obama to remain in “hands-off” mode on Obamacare details.

In the software industry, he is describing a SNAFU in the politest terms he can. "On the Fly" means nothing is solid, the main parameters are still fluid. Not getting code drops until the last month, means not enough time to deal with issues.

He is describing the recipe for a programming disaster.

They knew long before the last month that it was going to be bad. You can smell a SNAFU, like this, a mile away.

From another article this morning.

“But experts whom Reuters consulted believe that the architecture of the websites is fundamentally flawed and needs to be radically overhauled. For example, when individuals “apply” for coverage, the website automatically opens over 90 separate files and plugins to stream information from the user’s computer. The flood of traffic paralyzes the connection.”

Nice

Dial up users need not bother. Fill out forms on a flat rock and mail it to the processing center.

My question is:

How much cash did Aetna donate to Organizing For Obama?

"There's so much wrong, you just don't know what's broken until you get a lot more of it fixed."

Ya gotta fix it to find out what's broken. Because we had to pass the bill to see what's in it.

Interesting times.

Who would have thought, when Secretary Sibellius awarded a no-bid contract for website development to a big “contributor” to Obama that had limited computer experience, that something could “go wrong”?

I think it’s past time for the House to subpoena her bony keester to learn the extent of her personal kick-backs from Obamacare. That question should be asked many different ways.

“Secretary Sebellius, do you still claim that you received no “kick-back” of “fee” or “commission” from this no-bid contract?”

“Secretary Sebellius, do you still claim that you do not have a secret bank account for “commissions and fees” collected from insurance industry lobbyists?”

“Secretary Sebellius, do you still claim that, since the IRS gave you a “waiver”, your secret off-shore bank accounts are NOT illegal?”

All this muslim-like incompetence brings Mali to mind.

From http://www.ohio.com/news/world/radical-islamists-struggle-to-run-northern-mali-1.331229

DAKAR, SENEGAL: The radical Islamists who control northern Mali appear incapable of managing basic services — including electricity, water and schools — and in some cases are asking for the return of state functionaries to run them, according to a delegation that went to the region for talks recently...

...“They asked for the state to resume its functions, because it’s too complicated for them to manage,” ...

... “They are not used to running things.”

Our problem is when the muslim in charge can’t figure it out, who does he turn to?
