MANSFIELD, LA (KSLA) -

Shelves in Walmart stores in Springhill and Mansfield, LA were reportedly cleared Saturday night, when the stores allowed purchases on EBT cards even though they were not showing limits. Additional Links Computer issue, not government shutdown, likely cause of EBT card failures

The chaos that followed ultimately required intervention from local police, and left behind numerous carts filled to overflowing, apparently abandoned when the glitch-spurred shopping frenzy ended.

Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd confirms they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing off the shelves. He says Walmart was so packed, "It was worse than any black Friday" that he's ever seen.

Lynd explained the cards weren't showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn't press charges if she left the food.

Some people will find their next two or three months of benefits will be nil.

I know that if I die tomorrow, the government will force my wife to repay the S.S. check I received the first of this month. If I die on 30 Oct - same thing.

Scarey thought, isn’t it? That is such a major problem of starting benefit for anyone. You can’t take them away or they will riot! The so-called poor think that they are entitled to benefits and will riot if you even try to reduce their benefits...geez, what a society we’ve created. Well, not we, this society has been created by the Democrats.

“It was worse than any black Friday”

Now, that’s funny!

Why would Walmart do such a stupid thing?

I’m sure that all the folks who blew past the limits on their cards will have to pay back the overage. Right? [sarc off]

Oh sure, just like the poor oppressed federal employees who have applied for unemployment benefits while they are on their “bonus (ultimately to be) paid vacations. Yes, these wonderful feds will be determined to have been overpaid unemployment benefits once they receive their federal retro pay for their non-work hours. But their fellow government employees at their state unemployment offices will no doubt waive repayment of the unemployment benefits due to “hardship”.

The takers take—that’s what they know. So these feds and EBT holders will mostly get to keep their latest windfalls. I thought WalMart would have known better.

I know a person who incorrectly got a higher level of TANF cash benefits for a number of months. It was judged to be not a criminal situation but took many months of zero benefits to get that paid back.

Interesting about the SS check. Didn’t know that.

Meanwhile, honest hard-working people like us are penalized for being producers.

Seriously, with all of this, if we were not honest conservatives, it would be MORE beneficial for my husband and I to divorce, him to declare bankruptcy and go on welfare and just live together with separate addresses.

Of the three closest Wal-Marts to my house, I refuse to enter one of them. The store in Springfield, MA is like walking int a 3rd world country. Did it once, got what I needed and got out ASAP. After having more than one Spanish speaking “mother” yapping in her Obamaphone crash their cart into me or let the spawn run amok destroying the store I decided I would not return.

The other nearby stores are in a much more middle class area and tend to be much more normal.

Thanks so much, Black Agnes!
Walmart customers riot when unable to use EBT cards

Interesting Walmart's photo only features "white" customers.
I reckon, either they're the ones paying or they're also the ones who walked out with the goods?
No black customers at all ... interesting.

I truly think the biggest problem when the SHTF will be liberal do-gooders who won’t stand up to the hordes. And will try to stand in the way of those who will.

So really, Walmart owes all us taxpayers a big thank you.

That’s our money they get all the time.

It’s like Walmart is a huge welfare recipient because of all of OUR (the govt-confiscated) dollars spent there by these people.

WalMart will eat the loss.

A few years ago, we had a break-in while visiting my Sister in law in CA. They stole my business checkbook and one of them forged payroll type checks on my business account for $1500. The DA went after me, even though I had signed an affidavit of fraud and filed a police report. They had the guys fingerprint, and info and knew him but refused to do anything to him.

Yep.

First problem was the cards were all deactivated in 17 states.

Second problem was that when some of the cards were reactivated, the cards had no limit on them !

That’s a generic Walmart photo from Bentonville, Arkansas.
i.e. nothing like what you will see in your typical Walmart.

This was in Louisiana.

I wouldn’t buy anything frozen or refrigerated from that store for at least a week. You know lots of frozen stuff thawed. Now it’s been re-frozen.

Thanks so much. It was the one posted at the Clarion Ledger link and it sure doesn’t represent the Walmart wherein I do my shopping.
