TOPICS: News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: 2013obituaries; apollo; astronauts; carpenter; heroes; nasa; obituary; spacerace
My personal favorites are 2, with his family, and 29, where the American people are cheering a great American hero, and a great event for the country. Something we don't have a lot of right now.

My grandfather had business dealings with Jim McDivitt who was Gemini 4 commander and also flew on Apollo 9. I was in awe.

JFK wanted NASA to go to the moon.Osama Obama wants NASA to honor the Religion of Pieces. But I must admit that if he was *entirely* white I'd support every single one of his policies.(is a sarcasm tag really necessary?)

Such a better time for America. I feel that for nearly my entire life, this country has been in decline — with the exception of the Reagan years. Family, morals, economics, you name it, it’s all been corrupted and debased. Once, we were great.

And my communist streak was developing so well when Clinton was president. LOL

That looks like Patrick Airbase in a couple of those shots. Anyone live around Cocoa Beach who would know if the Mousetrap is still open? Great menu and the Astronauts always went there when they were training in the area.

Scott Carpenter will be remembered for a LONG time. You and I... not so much.
Long live the memories of the Gemini and Apollo Heroes.
Their accomplishments will not be equaled in most of our lifetimes.

In honor of the 7 original astronauts, and the entire NASA space team we need to recommit ourselves to manned space program by first establishing a new booster system to take them to Mars, the space station and the moon. The cost-benefit analysis has already been done and mankind benefits.
We had vision then and drive, now we have...? Islam?

I agree that the men of Apollo and Gemini AND Mercury SHOULD be remembered for a very long time to come.
My complaint was about the word legend....not in NACA or NASA. These folks did their jobs and in private were generally speaking very humble about it all (and yes I know that personally as a fact).
How and why I will be remembered is not mine to know. I do the jobs I am given with integrity.
